mrscheese I hope you have a great time at Disneyland, that the new hotel you got is nice, and that there's no more glitches with the trip!

mrscheese I hope you have a great time at Disneyland, that the new hotel you got is nice, and that there's no more glitches with the trip! Thank you 😊 So far, so good. We are surprising the kids. They didn’t know we were going anyway. We packed after they went to bed last night and told them we’re going on an adventure today. At the airport now and all they know is that we’re getting on a plane. It’s quite fun!

Spent the day at the Zoo. My car read 102 F and the cameras read they were too hot. Fun day. Let the kids get soaked in the splash pad before we left. I thought that was reasonable in the hear. Taking an inside break and off to the pool soon. ETA got to the pool and it was closed. Now my middle is really mad at me 🙄

There is a snake in my backyard 😟 Like, how big? It’s a baby snake like 2ft but I’m never going in the back yard again. It hasn’t moved on and I do not do snakes at all.

My dad and brother work for a local ambulance company. They just announced that they are closing starting September 1st. My mom just retired, under the assumption that my dad would work until he was at least 65 (he's 63 now) so that they would still have insurance, since they don't qualify for Medicare yet.
I'm worried about how they will handle this.
My brother already has interviews lined up, because he saw this coming. So hopefully he'll be able to land on his feet.

Is the job market there such that your dad could get another job with benefits even at age 63? And/or that your mom could get her job back (lots of teachers here go back after having retired - less so since the age for getting full pension went up, but still some) Glad your brother has interviews planned already!

They've already hired my mom's replacement, and she's been having health issues, so she really needs to retire. My dad is hoping to get another job. He's a paramedic, and there's a shortage of them in the area. He has to work until they close to get his severance though, so hopefully whoever is hiring will wait for that.

@springdebuk we are headed your way tomorrow we are 97% packed, of course DH couldn’t get home bc airports are such a nightmare so he might have to drive from Canada🤯
So now I have to put the Thule box on myself and I can barely reach 1 windshield wiper without a ladder so this should go well. I expect ds2 will be climbing on the roof to help me. This is also the first time I will have Ds1 wheelchair on my hitch with a cooler so am also nervous about that. We will be getting 1 mile a gallon.
Amtrak is the cheapest way to travel $19 each way we should have created a train journey like we did before covid.

Today before we head home from my parents we are going to meet up with some old neighbors for a picnic lunch/playdate. They are the ones that lived next to us in our old house, and moved out while I was pregnant with Dd2. We've only seen each other a handful of times since then, so it will be good to catch up. I am however not looking forward to the drive home today. We will be driving through a storm, and I really hate driving in the rain. Give me all the snow/ice/blizzard instead.

Old neighbor and I spent 3.5 hours together today. We ended up going to her house and let the kids play together there since it ended up raining. I forgot what good friends we are and how much fun we used to have sitting together talking. Our kids would have had soooo much fun all playing together if we still lived next door.

Did your H get there, luvboston? I've never understood how people get Thule boxes up onto their cars, especially bigger vehicles. You'll have something to add to your superhero list of accomplishments now! I forgot where in Maine youre going. Anyway, have a good trip!

We arrived, ds2 vomited 10 mins from home so my sisters had to come bring a new car seat, then we got to Sanford and as we were coming off the exit ds2 had to emergency go to the bathroom. Then Ds1 vomited on the deck of our tent. #winning Dh got to Maine on Amtrak which is cheaper than taking the commuter rail home 🤦♀️ Sanford is super easy to get to and I highly recommend Huttopia so far it’s a great stay.

Glad Huttopia is good, luvboston, but sorry about all the puke! I hope it's out of everyone's system now so you can enjoy your vacation! Sanford is barely into Maine - about 2 1/2 hours from me. It's good you're there, though - I think it's out of the browntail moth caterpillar zone. But if you happen to see a furry caterpillar with two red dots on it (maybe a few have gotten that far south), don't let the kids touch it!!

Maine is deceptively large, we had an amazing meal at RI Ra in Portland. We have so much Maine dirt on us we will be brown for a month. We learned so far that ds2 surprisingly hates boating and Ds1 who cannot go on a swing is fine boating. We also need a larger car or Thule box because we have no room. My dad is now with us and we are packed like sardines with stuff everywhere.

The girls both got their covid boosters this afternoon. Dd1 didn't cry at all, and Dd2 cried enough for the 2 of them. We did a quick grocery trip right after, and the only thing that got her to stop crying was getting to use a green kids shopping cart. We did also stop and got smoothies on our way home.
Dd1 is saying that her head hurts, and Dd2 is pretty tired. I'll give them both some Motrin before bed, and we are planning on having a chill day at home tomorrow so they can rest and recover.

I accepted a new job today. It starts in 1 month from today. It’s a faculty position that gets renewed every year. I am shocked I was offered faculty. They were only going to offer staff but changed to be able to offer more money. This means I had to turn down another opportunity that would have been awesome too.
