meggypoo1, how scary. My county still hasn't been hit, but it's all around us so just a matter of time, I'm sure.

I'm going to try and get our taxes filed today. I know the deadline has been extended, but we really need our refund, especially with the way all this is going.

I'm so sorry footloose. We decided today will be DS's last day at DC for awhile. They are still open but said a lot of parents pulled their kids over the weekend. They said it's totally up to us but I feel like it is the right thing to do.

I am in the mindset that it’s everywhere and we just don’t know it. It’s also very telling that it’s a kid that was the first to have it. Like where did they get it? I’m sure from an adult of some sort. They aren’t being hospitalized at this time so that’s good. Our city had to be like stop going to playgrounds because apparently that wasn’t obvious.

Our city closed all playgrounds last week. However, there’s a small playground in my development that is not a city playground. It’s very small, and usually no one on it. Friday was a beautiful day an it was mobbed! No joke, we passed by on a walk, it was 20+ kids and adults. If people would just stay the f away from each other we could end this. It’s so frustrating for those of us doing all the right things to have it drawn out by people who think it shouldn’t affect them.

They said it's totally up to us but I feel like it is the right thing to do. We pulled DD2 from the childminder too. Schools and nurseries closed but childminders were allowed to continue. Like most childminders, ours took on a heap of school children whose parents are continuing to work. I’d rather DD2 freed up a space for parents who need it and I didn’t feel that comfortable sending her anyway.

This is my neighbour...she has literally socialised more this past week than she ever has before.she dreads looking after her child by herself so is out and about at friends houses, on play dates, at parties, out shopping. She is an ex teacher who clearly doesn’t want to teach her own (spoilt brat) child. What is wrong with people!!!

H's teacher stopped by and bought eggs today. H cried when she left and said he just wanted to give her a hug. It was so sad. He is doing well with his school work though, so I'm feeling better about this week.
We also scheduled a grocery pickup. It will be ready Thursday night. 😅 We have enough for a couple weeks, but I want some extra milk, flour, sugar, etc since as are making a lot of homemade meals. Then we won't have to leave the house for about a month. I'm getting more worried about food shortages and I just need to ease my mind.

footloose I'm sorry. I know so many in a similar situation and it's hard. My brother had to shut down his practice except to emergencies. He is paying all of his employees even though they can't work right now, but I don't know how long he can do that. I wonder how many small businesses won't make it. 😔

We are such a small community here as it is with very little businesses to choose from in the first place. This is going to kill our town. It is so sad. We just recently started having some growth and the big business like the brand new Tim Horton's will be fine as they still do take out and are a huge business, but it won't be the case for the little shops or hair stylist etc.

I’m sorry footloose. Will they at least waive the waiting period for unemployment if there is one? They did that here and my sister was approved in 3 days and is supposed to get her first payment today. Dh decided to not work after today but his boss changed what he originally said and now says they are only paying minimum wage. We can’t do that. He had a panic attack this morning about it and I just feel helpless. He called hr and is waiting to hear back.

In the U.K., if you are made unemployed due to the impact of coronavirus the government pay 80% of your wage up to £2500 per month.
It doesn’t cover self employed people - DH...who is still clinging onto his job at the moment all be it from home - but it is a very welcome initiative.
His job in Saudi Arabia is never going to happen now...he was just waiting on the paperwork being finalised for his visa.

I hope all this goes away quickly and everyone gets back to work and back to normal. I can’t imagine companies won’t want to hire their own folks back. I’ve heard banks are freezing loans for 90 days even for business owners so basically as long as they can start paying again in 90 days they should be okay.

We are officially in lockdown.
All shops and businesses closed except supermarkets.
One piece of exercise per day.
No leaving the house outwith food shop or exercise, to fill a prescription or medical emergency.
To be enforced by police.

They have waived the waiting period, but it is just that unemployment is just over 50 % of your pay. And it's not like I was making a ton to begin with. It makes it so hard.

I was crying when I left. One of the owners cried with me. He said not to worry about my job and so did his daughter. They said they love me and my work and I will be one of the first to hear when it's time to go back.
But then they talked about what happens if the government makes people shut down for like 4 months or more. They can get by for 2 months but after that with zero income?? They don't know.

So sorry footloose! I really hope the government takes action to help small businesses (like for example suspend loan payments for the tow trucks and just tack them onto the end of the lian term -figuring the lender is big enough bank to afford that, or the should be some program to support smaller lenders) and to increase unemployment benefits or give some supplemental universal basic income! I'm wondering about car repair shops here - I think I need my rear brakes fixed but not sure if shops are open plus the logistics - neither waiting in their waiting room nor getting a ride home seem like a good idea and its still cold out!
