Such a shame to close playgrounds since maintaining distance shouldn't be so hard and unlikely for virus to survive on surfaces out in sunlight, harsh temperatures, etc. But if people are crowding there .... Ugh. People are dumb. Also so strange and sad to hear about limits in other countries even extending to no outdoor exercise. When really outdoor exercise should be helpful and not risky. But if people are not maintaining distance then they spoil it for others and make harsher rules needed. Ugh.

I went for groceries and spent about twice as much as normal. and didn't even buy any alcoholic beverages! Eating at home should be cheaper but for school I just bring frozen meals that cost 2 or 3$ and maybe a yogurt; whole we are home im trying to make the best of the situation by eating better - trying for way more veggies and also just "nice" food to cheer myself up. Plus for some things like bread only the expensive kinds were available. I feel so grateful that my salary continues during this time! Though trying to "teach" from home while taking care of my two littles is bizarre and not particularly effective so far; very glad im not a specialist not still 1st grade!

To continue talking to myself here ... And not for those with serious anxiety about the pandemic to read ... The maine CDC director said something to make us go "hmm" and 😱 - today the total cases in maine is 89 (or 80 something - I might not be remembering quite right) which was the number in the whole country at the beginning of March. 3 weeks later, 40,000some cases nationwide. He also said he really doesnt expect maine to have 40000 in 3 weeks due to precautions people are taking, but still.

I’m honestly disgusted by folks selfishness.

The hospital Ds1 goes to is running out of supplies. They need masks, hand sanitizer, wipes etc. That’s how it is in a lot of places. We are rationing and reusing. It’s not good.

We have an official shelter in place/ stay at home order here now. Minimum of two weeks. People were clearly not taking it seriously and flocking to parks and beaches. Stupid!

I'm surprised you didn't have one already. Our gov was dragging his feet. We had a lot of “please social distance”, “please stay home if you can.” But people weren’t so now it’s mandates and punishable by law. Hopefully people ducking stay home now! Dh is home with me now indefinitely and they are paying him what they should. I’m so excited to have a teachers aide!

H is down to one day a week right now (he's essential, custodial staff, but with the university pretty closed down, they don't need them everyday) but he's getting paid for the days he's not working too. Which is such a relief since I make next to nothing.

Dh has been worried that they would temporarily close the ethanol plant he works at. He found out today that they won't be doing that, and instead will reduce production/shut down the plant and do repairs. This is the year that they usually do a full shut down for 10-12 days and bring in contracting crews to do big jobs. They can't bring in the crews, so are instead going to do smaller repairs.

Air Canada just layed off 600 pilots and are reducing everyone to 55 hours of pay a month and pilots are possibly getting demoted to first officers and then more layoffs May 1

Today is kind of a disaster. I’m trying to shake it off, but dang I just want to call it and have tv time all day.
The zoom call with the teacher was a mess, as per. The teacher read a story, but our internet was laggy and didn’t keep up. No one muted their audio, so we could hear 14 kids talking throughout. We’re also missing an assignment she referenced for today. Apparently I have to go to school to pick up and additional packet. The teacher had my name misspelled so I’ve been missing emails.

Am I the only one waking up each morning thinking this was just a nightmare and it’s over now? I said to dh I can’t wait for life to go back to normal, but it’s so weird to have no idea when that might happen. And it probably won’t just be poof back to normal, we’ll be recovering and adjusting back slowly. I’m going with the assumption we’re not going back to school this year, but it makes my heart hurt.

We are getting a stay at home order today but the details haven't been announced. I'm wondering if we will be able to go to our maple taps across the Michigan border to collect our sap. We won't see a single person, but I'm pretty sure they are going to deem it non-essential and we will have to shut down. The next 7 days are perfect syrup weather and we've only gotten 2 pints of finished syrup so far. We need about a gallon for our family (which takes 40 gallons of sap).

Its to get food for your family. But really how would you get caught? If you're in your own personal vehicle and then in the woods (do you guys call it the sugarbush there too?) you're not increasing anyone's risk. As long as you don't get hurt and need an ambulance. ...but hopefully that's super unlikely! And accidents can happen while staying at home too. Why does my mind even go to that possibility?

Has anyone thought about what your doing for the May birthdays? I know it's early and there is so much unknown but places could book.

Am I the only one waking up each morning thinking this was just a nightmare and it’s over now? Definitely. I can’t fathom what is actually going on. Then I see glimpses and it feels very scary because we know what is coming. There’s a sick little girl at the hospital across the street (only know from the news), which is so scary to know this little girl is no different than my little boys. I’m so grateful. Also we got a babysitter so h and I could actually work from home today. We tried earlier and found the kids outside. Yikes!

We had tentatively planned for June, but I don’t know if we will be able to do that either. We were going to have kids over, hire someone to do some activities on the soccer field and have a bounce house brought in. In our heads it was going to be such fun...but it might be cake with the immediate family.

We are not a lock down state, and our governor says we won’t be, but there is literally nothing open right now to book. There’s 0 exit strategy right now and we haven’t reached the peak yet so it’s impossible to even predict when restrictions will start to be lifted. I’d guess the cdc will still be recommending social distancing and no gatherings.
