Anti-vaxxers are ridiculous. The state legislature had passed (and the new, non-crazy, Gov. signed) a law that removes philosophical and religious exemptions for vaccines (for kids to be allowed in schools I think including daycare - definitely including nursery school) - only medical exemptions will be allowed now (and it fixed the rule for medical exemptions because the old one didn't allow some reasons that actually should be so a few people whose kids should really have had medical exemptions have had to claim philosophical; they now should be able to get medical).
Yay, Maine! And its really needed because there's currently a lot of places where the vaccination rate is below 95% And we keep having pertussis outbreaks .
Well of course some people didn't like that and there was a people's veto on the ballot yesterday. It lost (we voted to keep the new stronger law) and it wasn't even close. It was about 77% to 23%!! But the leader of the people's veto campaign is out there saying this result "does NOT represent the will of the Maine people"! Ridiculous. Yes, in most towns (a few had local elections yesterday too) the election was only this question and the democratic primary. But maine has early voting (by mail and in person!), same day registration, long voting hours, and other than maybe in portland, no long lines for voting. It's seriously easy to vote here. Many people who weren't voting in the democratic primary still came out to vote to keep the vaccine law; people who wanted it overturned had an equal opportunity to do that. So those organizers need to accept the decision of the voters, shut up, and go home. And maybe go learn some science!

springbeduk, they are considering a similar law here but it would be passed by the legislature not voted on. There is a lot of outrage about it. Many argue the medical exemption isn't broad enough which may be true but they can't make it too broad because it'll be abused. I don't know if it will get passed.

Ours was passed by the legislature but then maine is one of the states where it's fairly easy to get "citizen" initiatives ("" because in practice many now have corporate or other outside interest group funding and organizing behind them) on the ballot - either for new laws or to overturn a recently enacted law. So that's how we ended up voting on it. I hope yours passes even if they have to overbroaden the medical exemption. It'll still he harder to get than claiming philosophical objection. And there are other routes to crack down on doctors who give inappropriate/way too many medical exemptions.

Why is Starbucks the only company doing something to help the stop of Covaid 19?

Took DD1 to orthopedics urgent care yesterday and they decided that she has a bigger fracture than radiology initially reported so now she has a cast for 4 weeks. luvboston activebaby send me all your survival tips please! Also wtf luvboston I asked my pedi, radiology, orthopedics, cvs and the school nurse where can I get her a splint and not one of them told me about o&p. Next time I’m asking you first (hopefully there is no next time!) Sorry she has to have a cast. We have a shower with a detachable head so it wasn’t too hard to keep it dry. I hope her cast fits well over it. I hope these for weeks go by quickly!

Everything crossed for her to get better quickly and also to maybe get a confirmed diagnosis of something less worrisome/more treatable!

Talked to my sister and she is OK for now. She’s staying home, monitoring symptoms and reporting to her doctors daily.
My work bought us all laptops which are being set up now. They said we will start working from home on Monday. This is unreal.

Dh works with Salesforce and they have suspended all business travel, so he won't be headed to the office at all this month. I like having him 100% work from home, but the circumstances are unfortunate.

scotty, E's attitude on your instastory was adorable. Its exactly what Dd2 would have done, but she would have added an eye roll at the end for extra sass.

The university of Washington has been approved for testing and they say they can test up to 1000 a day so I assume many more people will be tested in coming days. For now she doesn’t meet the criteria for testing.

Yeah, there was virtually no traffic this morning. A school district north of us closed today for the next 14 days. They had 20% of their kid’s out yesterday and are implementing online classes starting Monday.

DH has stuff he has to be in town for for the next couple of weeks anyway, but his company has suspended all international travel and is limiting domestic travel. Kind of nice that his travel may be minimal for a while. They’ve also said you should work from home if you have any symptoms - not sure why this isn’t encouraged this strongly for other highly contagious viruses. Praying for your sister mrscheese

mrscheese that’s so scary. I’ve been thinking about your sister and you of course all day. I just texted with her and she’s feeling much better. They actually think what she’s feeling is related to her hospitalization last week. She’s staying home for now and hopefully is safe for the time being.

No, not yet. But they’ve cancelled all events except one and it’s day to day. If Seattle Public Schools close, I imagine our school will follow suit. This is just crazy. I can’t believe it’s real life.

I can’t believe it’s real life. We have no holy water on entering mass, no communion wine (only the priest can take it), no bread to be placed in mouths, hands only and no sign of peace. Necessary I know, but this has made me really quite sad.

I just dropped DD2 down a couple of stairs and she hit her head. I stepped on a toy and fell myself as well. She's fine. I had my dad (paramedic) come check her out.
Total mom fail today though
