Thanks for the good wishes everyone.
She had a good sleep and is in good spirits.
I’m keeping the bigger kids off school all day I decided - they are exhausted and I think a duvet day for us all is just what the doctor ordered.

DS told me another kid threw up in class today so now I'm more worried about the stomach bug than anything else. This is me right now. Went from T, to C, to me. I HATE the stomach bug so much. I can pretty much handle any illness but puking. And then everyone gets it. I was having a panic attack last night.

lulu, that's scary. Glad she was able to sleep. DS had croup as a baby and it sounds so much worse than it is.

Croup is the worst but in my experience very quickly over once the kids get meds.

DH says his office told everyone to work from home one day next week. He gets to choose which day he wants. I don’t get it. People are still going to be in the office but all on different days, sounds pointless and very inefficient! Ate they doing it as a trial run to prepare for (or to consider) having people fully work from home? Yes turns out that is what they’re doing, trial run to make sure everyone is setup to WFH if they need to shut down the office.

This doesn’t make any sense to me when the flu kills people every year and schools don’t shut down until a large % are absent and yet one person can shut down a district with this virus. I talked to a mom at school today who works at a hospital. She was saying it’s scary because you have the option to vaccinate for flu and they can give tamiflu. With this they don’t even really know how to treat it. They don’t really want people coming in with it, but they get several a day who think they have it - so far lots of flu and pneumonia. Which of course they also don’t want the average flu patient bringing it into to hospital. I agree though shutting down the district seems extreme. Unless you can trace that this person had contact with x number of teachers and administrators who should now self quarantine to the level that you can’t staff the school. That seems unlikely though. Nothing about the response to this virus makes sense to me. It’s basically a bad cold, that might kill some people but no worse than the flu does. no one cares about the flu, while Coronavirus is shutting down entire countries and crashing the global economy. 10years ago we didn’t have a vaccine for the flu, but no one got quarantined . It all seems ridiculous.

It all seems ridiculous. It seems there are 2 strains. One is much worse. Reports out of Italy are disturbing. Their hospitals are overwhelmed so I can understand the need to mitigate spread.

I understand this illness can be severe to people with existing conditions and if people can stay home that is great. I'm all about reducing the spread. What I don't understand is the panic, stealing, stockpiling, and crashing the stock market. People are making poor decisions out of fear and it will have long lasting effects on everyone.

lulu I hope your DD is feeling better! That sounds scary. If you are worried about UTI watch for fever and vomiting because that's how it presents in kids a lot of the time.

This morning I was behind a car with a confederate flag sticker on the back window and a dreamcatcher hanging from the rear view window. That seems really incongruous. Am I missing something?

I checked her temp before I went to bed and she’s cool to touch but her hair is very sweaty. (That’s kind of her normal). For months and months she often has a day of pee-ing non stop. Like over 20 times a day. Huge volumes (filling a potty each time) and the urine is as clear as water. No pain or smell. (That’s kind of why I’m mad at myself yesterday for not noticing she didn’t go) Anyway - when she gets tested for UTIs, it comes back positive for e-coli and she gets antibiotics, but it keeps coming back. Her bladder and kidney scan is next week so I’m so interested to see what comes back.

Rutgers has canceled in person classes until April 3rd. UMaine is taking the opposite approach and trying to get students to stay on campus/local for spring break. Since there's not yet any diagnosed cases in maine they want to avoid students going south and then bringing it back with them. They're offering no charge for the extra room and board. I wonder how well it will work. Probably would go better if they offered free beer too! Though pot is legal here and not yet in FL (right?) so maybe students will go for the stay-cation idea ... Maybe ....

Most kidney issues are a pretty easy fix or outgrown, so she has that in her favor if they do find something. Sending prayers!

Maybe .... Funny, Harvard told their students not to come back from spring break, they’re shutting down dorms and moving all classes online. MIT has switched all classes over 100 students to online. Last I heard about Boston University they are still operating normally. DH says that about half a dozen people from his company were at the Biogen conference that got everyone sick in MA, including one person in his group. These people have been told to self quarantine but they still came to work for about a week before anyone figured out. It’s getting closer and closer to our family 😱

Our uni is in meltdown...
Apparently a student who just returned from China was self isolating in the dorm (I hope by this he means his own room) and didn’t tell anyone until day 13.
Then a lecturer admitted he had symptoms and also self isolated without telling the uni.
Now all the staff and students are up in arms.

So we had a big snowstorm a week and a half ago and got over 55 cms in one day! It was crazy all day at work with all the winches and towing from snow trouble. I had to walk to work and the snow was up to my crotch in my driveway. Totally nuts and now the sun keeps shining and temps getting warmer so spring is finally coming. Amen.
Now have a big list of projects to do outside of course. I am excited and just can't wait for some nice weather. It was a cool spring last year and took a long time to warm up so the year has felt long.

I don’t think you can quarantine yourself in a dorm room 🤔... he must have still be going to the cafeteria to eat and down the hall to the bathroom

So many people who should be self quarantined are just going about their business and spreading this.

All signs are pointing to that. I am actually considering pulling them from school tomorrow regardless. Cot only goes Mon-Wed so it would only be J.

Our school just emailed and said they are open tomorrow. I’m surprised. Going to talk with dh about keeping them home anyway.
I am working remotely from now to unknown. I am just shook by all of this. There are so many people I know who are waiting for test results or who have had contact with someone who has it.
