My SIL teaches in CT schools and they are closing...I’ll check what day but I think Monday. From tmrw apparently and virtual learning from Tuesday. We haven’t gotten the official word yet. We already had a half day today and tomorrow for parent teacher conferences (which were cancelled). They also had bumped up the planned day off at the end of March for the 17th to discuss virtual learning. I’m assuming we will hear it starts Monday. One town next to us is closed until further notice another starting Monday.

DD's school just posted a letter that they aren't closing yet but are working on getting procedure in place in case we have to. Currently no remote learning plans in place at all.

All 75 districts in my county are closed for distance learning starting tomorrow at 3pm. No end date was given.

The superintendent just called school for tomorrow. The kids then exploded a ball with hundreds of bubble jellies. We aren’t going to last 24 hours.

Omg. The amount of stuff that came home with J today is 😳. He is confused but said his teacher told him we will be setting up a school at our house. He asked if we needed to build walls. 😂
I’m going to make a routine for each day. I’m in shock still.

Just got the call, half day tomorrow as scheduled and then schools are closed for at least 2 weeks. 😳
This should be an interesting two weeks. Not sure how productive I’ll be for work.

I can point you to some good IG accounts for easy home activities if needed.

All Michigan schools have been shut down for 3 weeks. I don't understand what they want parents who have to work to do. We are just across the Michigan border and I know a lot of people that will be struggling next week. I hope they have a plan to feed low income kids who qualify for free or reduced lunch, especially if their parents can't work. 😔

No need to potentially expose my parents or sister to whatever any of us might have at some point. Please give me all the recs! I’m really interested in things the can do on their own. Lol

There is no stockpiling of food or toilet roll in this house...
I’m stockpiling craft, games, colouring in books and stickers in preparation for school closures.
No decision here yet but it will come.
The First Minister has already said if it happens, it will be until summer 😳

I just read that Trump had contact with a Brazilian man who tested positive for coronavirus.
But he has no plans to self isolate or get tested.
Trump is so amazing and strong he is obviously immune. 🙄

I’m going to make a thread dedicated to ideas for entertaining kids at home and/or educational activities to do as well. Since dd1 was sassing me about correcting her homework last night and this is literally my job, teaching her for multiple weeks should be fun. I’m also available for any school work questions for the older kids.

So far DC is still open so DS will be going there as long as they are open and he's healthy. I'm sure he'll be coming home with a lot of work so that should be fun. They haven't made a call at work yet but I'm sure it's coming because most schools here are closing.

And I went grocery shopping at 7am. It wasn't insane but they were pit of some dairy items and of course TP. I just did my usual shopping plus a couple extras but nothing crazy. All of the counters where they serve fresh food were closed.

All of the counters where they serve fresh food were closed. The grocery stores here (less panicked so far as first case in the state was only announced yesterday - really all around yesterday was the day panic just started to hit here with that and all the other announcements in the news) still have plenty of food but no toilet paper at all and paper towels and Kleenex shelves were only about 1/4 full. I didn't look at soap, hand sanitizer, or cleaning supplies - they're probably low too. Unfortunately, I actually need toilet paper pretty soon. some colleagues yesterday said they happened to have just done their Sam's club run recently so had a giant pack and could help me out if needed but it will seem pretty ridiculous if it comes to that!!!

In places where schools and daycares are closing, what are health care workers supposed to do?
Ds's daycare people are worrying about that because many of the parents there are nurses, MAs, or CNAs, so of course they're all worrying about what to do with their kids if schools and daycares close.

My work is not being reasonable. Like my kid is home for two weeks and we have the capacity to telework but yet my supervisor is like- but what if the work can’t get done? Well idk what I’m supposed to do. Can you watch my kid? Can you force the school to reopen? She acts like everyone needs to come together to come up with a solution. Meaning: you come up with a solution yourselves that still gets the work done exactly as it would be if we didn’t have every school in the area closed right now. Idk I don’t have an answer. They also want us to take leave for any periods we aren’t working while at home with the kids. I’m trying to save my leave for the baby, because you know you don’t have disability or free paid leave until October and my baby is due in June. And I know I don’t have it as bad as people living paycheck to paycheck. If I have to use leave and then be unpaid, so be it. But idk why work is acting like they can’t just be understanding of the impossible situation we’re in.

Sorry cattitude. That's BS. I'm guessing your supervisor doesn't have small children. As for me, I am fortunate to have one of the most understanding bosses and he has already said WFH is no problem if school is cancelled. He knows we are responsible and will get our work done. Pretty sure they are going to make the call to cancel today. We had a late start today for the district to discuss e-learning. It's inevitable.

I’m like my options are- let me telework, or I have to take leave. I would think you would prefer option 1 but whatever. Also- 6 months pregnant and not trying to die.

cattitude if my office closes down, you can send them here. Since I'm a contractor, I haven't gotten a clear answer on whether I would be able to work from home. So I figure I can babysit for people if the schools are closed and I can't work. DH can't do his job from home so we could possibly both be home not working 😫

cattitude, she's setting herself up for anyone who has kids that are going to have to stay home with them to not get any work done. Would she rather have you 50% of the time for the next two week or 0%.

Dh's work just had a meeting about encouraging everyone to work from home if at all possible. Someone asked if they could still come in for lunch. 🙄
On the positive side, Dh stopped getting internet reimbursement for being a telecommuter this year but now that they are asking more people to work from home they are reinstating that reimbursement. I know we are very lucky right now and am very appreciative of that.
