I was at a seat check last night and decided to swing into target for a few things. We are already stocked on toilet pepper and cleaning supplies (nothing above our usual supply), but they were out of all TP and soap.. I also stopped into joann fabrics to pick up a couple of things, and am now kicking myself for not getting more fabric. I've decided to make at least 1 apron as a teacher gift for Dd2s preschool teacher since she has started wearing and old one, and could have picked up fabric to make it.
No plans to close our school just yet, but it could be coming soonish. I'm good friends with the principals wife, so I'll know almost right away when the announcement is made.

Things change quickly.
After no email from school, I went to the public schools and there was a letter from the superintendent, dates today, with precautions they’re taking. Nothing about closing.
Found the email from our principal about what they’re doing, preparations should they close, and not closing yet.
And now...public schools are closed next week.
50 mins left in the school day, waiting for final word, but it likely a big party at home next week 🎉

Most schools districts around Boston are closed for 2-6weeks. Boston public schools are still operating and the governor just announced the star won’t be closing schools. “Gov. Charlie Baker said that most large gatherings are prohibited, and that state health officials do not recommend shutting school down.” The mayor of Boston was on the news this morning saying he was keeping schools open for now be cause there are 75’000 kids in the district, mostly low income families, and it would be too devastating to close. Meanwhile Los Angeles is shutting down, that’s 600k students out of school!

I understand the social concerns of people being out of work, but if closing schools and being out of work is the only way to slow the spread, the costs & benefits need to be weighed. The cdc is now recommending schools close for 2 weeks.

mrscheese I know you have much bigger worries with all that is going on, but are you feeling as lost as I am with absolutely no sports? Omg, yes! I have nothing to watch at night. And no sports center that’s worth watching. Last night I was watching best of nba and nhl highlights on YouTube. 😔 and I just heard they postponed the Masters. Man.

We had a long talk about germs and science and such and they get it a little more but obviously they don’t understand what 6 weeks at “school” with mommy actually means. Stay strong!

cattitude, she's setting herself up for anyone who has kids that are going to have to stay home with them to not get any work done. Would she rather have you 50% of the time for the next two week or 0%. I’m sad to say that it’s likely to be longer than two weeks. Bosses need to get it together and understand that this is unprecedented and digging in their heels only hurts people when the inevitable happens. Dh’s boss is doing this too and it’s infuriating.

Since yesterday it’s been a weird feeling of business as usual, but just a matter of time until it isn’t. This morning felt really odd to take dd to the school and go to the Y, knowing how many schools and business are closed just a stones throw away. Public schools have only committed to closing next week so far. It’s such a weird limbo and not really knowing what’s next. No official update on next week for us. DD has a packet of work just in case. They’ve talked about “the virus” at school for the last week or so and she’s taking it all in stride. DS saw her worksheets and would also like some work to do 😂

I feel really up in the air about everything. The government has gone all out on some things - sports, large events etc, but so half arsed on issues closer to home for me - like schools and travel. DH is at the end of 3 weeks away and I’m dreading a phonecall to say his rig is getting quarantined which would mean he was stuck there for another two. Mass makes me so sad how much it has changed and I’ll miss it so much if it gets cancelled altogether. Our supermarkets are decimated due to selfish pricks stockpiling. DD2 is so unwell with croup and there was no children’s medicine on the shelves bar one bottle that had been smashed. I had to do a food shop for my gran - all the own brand cheaper items had been wiped out and only the expensive brands left. She’s a pensioner ffs and is too proud to let me pay. The toilet roll and soaps aisle was a ghost town...that was on her list. In times like these I like to think community spirit will win the day...will it fuck! I’m sad 😢

So far no update about work. Luckily my boss will let me WFH whenever I need to. DC is still open but we'll see on Monday. DS has a birthday party that's still going ahead tomorrow. I'm glad because it'll give him something to do. And karate is still on, though next week it's on a reduced schedule and will be live streamed.

On a positive note I left my number for the girls at the after school program for babysitting and I already got a text. We’ve never had a babysitter before as we don’t really know people. Once this all settles we can finally go out on dates! Just might be a few months from now.

Our governor has mandated all schools close on Wednesday until April 6th. We are starting seeds, making syrup, and taking care of all of the outdoor spring chores, so I think we'll stay entertained. I hope.

All the schools in our state are closed for 3 weeks starting Monday. We homeschool, so it’s not a change for us but, I do feel for all the families that maybe struggling through this. It was announced today by our local school district, that they will be delivering meals to those that are in need of them by school bus. I’m glad they are trying to continue to provide meals for the students that really need them.

I am trying to wrap my head around teaching 6 year olds from home and I just can’t do it.... Is school asking you to do online teaching?? Seriously, 2nd grade and under they should just tell parents to read with the kids and maybe do some addition/subtraction. I can’t imagine having my kids sit through an online lesson

There’s a good episode of Storybots on Netflix about how do you get the flu. Also, this book is cute, even though I’m annoyed Santa is in it for no reason whatsoever Do Not Lick This Book www.amazon.com/dp/1250175364/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_bDaBEbW57K1BB

They said try to do 1-2 hours a day of school work. I’m impressed with what they have sent so far. It’s comprehensive and easy to understand. The teacher, principal and vice principal are available to us, each provided a cell phone number. Brave people!

If we hear from a parent between 8:30-12:30 we count them “present” for the day. All of the stuff we sent home was just review though so if it goes longer than 2/3 weeks we will need to introduce new material somehow. I’m going to try and use google classroom and google meet a little bit. Maybe record myself reading to them and post it. 🤷🏼♀️

Also DD2 ignored me and climbed up and touched the hot stove. So that's fun

You’ve already taught your kids more in their lifetime than they’ve learned in school this year. We’ve got this!
