Dd1 told us tonight that she is now too old for happy meals at mcdonalds. Ds is too. He needs a 10 piece chicken nugget meal and a McDouble. For a while she could eat a whole happy meal and an extra cheese burger. Right now she says that she doesn't want the toys any more. I'm sad that she's grown up enough to not want the happy meal anymore, but it will also save us some money just getting her burger(s) and a small fry.

DD1 has not decided she's too old of Happy meals yet. Of this, I am grateful. She does have a "Valentine" (aka boyfriend) at school though, which makes H not happy.
I want my girls to stay little a while longer.

I want my girls to stay little a while longer. Dd has had teenager attitude on and off for a couple years already, and rather adult-ish understanding of some things, but at the same time also sweet charming little kid innocence/child world. Funny mix; I definitely want to keep as much of the childhood part as possible for as long as possible! She still likes happy meals - we got them yesterday, actually- maybe the first time in 6 weeks or so? The toy was some interactive Mickey and Minnie poster thing with stickers and maybe more? Anyway more interesting than some of the plastic junk. She's always made friends (but just friends) with boys, though this year it's just trying to keep up a friendship from a previous year - no new male friend this year. I really want her to keep up just-friend connections with boys as much as possible, plus also for some reason (and I hope this continues when it comes to husband time long long from now 🤞🤞) she makes friends mostly with boys with really nice, left-leaning, easier for me to relate to, parents, whereas her best girl friends have been/are from pretty religious conservative families; very nice moms and it's good to get to know people with different points of view, etc, but ... still a bit more stressful.

I think Dd1 has a crush on her teacher. He's a really nice teacher, and is her first guy teacher.

We were at dinner this weekend at a restaurant and it had a drawing/picture of a naked lady (and maybe a bicycle?). It’s one of those vintage French style posters. Something similar to this Cycles Gladiator by Georges Massias, Vintage Poster Wall Art. Ds’ eyes got so big. He blushed and pointed it out.

DS told me that he doesn't have a crush on anyone but 2 girls have crushes on him. And one of his friends has a girlfriend. 😯

We had our driveway extended for easier turn around. I talked to ds3 about it and told him he could not step on the new concrete. I turned around and grabbed things out of my car…and he was walking across it. Luckily he didn’t weigh enough to make any problems. But geez. I guess walk and step seemed like different things to him.

Happy Valentine's Day, all! H got me three wedges of Brie. Which is really sweet, as he hates soft cheeses, but knows I love them.

We are getting an air scrubber installed in our house. So instead of all my individual air purifiers, this one will attach to our furnace/heat pump and clean allllll the air. Bring on allergy and wildfire smoke season!

But they still send home those annoying "This is how many days she's missed, please don't miss anymore..." notes.

I was driving home from dance class when a family of 4 deer decided to dart across the road. I slammed on the breaks and came inches from hitting #3. Definitely got my blood pumping. They aren't usually out this early or in that area, so it was quite the surprise.

I see sooo many deer in the mornings on my way to school that I"m constantly scanning the fields on either side of the highway for them. Last Friday morning there were 10 of them crossing. It was a ways in front of me, so no danger to us, but half of them made it across, and there other half got scared by a different car and turned and ran back into the field they were coming from. Just a tip in case you didn't know, honk your horn when see them. It will scare them and make them run away from the road.

We are expecting 20+ inches of snow starting tomorrow and going through Friday. I have spent today mentally preparing myself for the kids to be home at least 2 days week, and for dh to be staying at work.

They aren't usually out this early or in that area, so it was quite the surprise. That scary! We had deer in ATL but now we really have a ton of them. Especially living so close to water and woods. I’m always looking for them. I totaled a car when I was a teenager driving to college when one landed (dead) on my car. The 18 wheeler in the other lane hit it and it went flying onto my car. (I was fine, just terrified)

I have spent today mentally preparing myself for the kids to be home at least 2 days week, and for dh to be staying at work. Wow! I thought we would have something this year moving 6-7 hours north, but nothing expected so far. My lemon tree (the Meyer) is flowering like crazy (the eureka’s are struggling (one looks good, one has a lot of damage). I leave them in the garage and pull them out as often as possible if the low is 40 or above. I don’t know how to take care of them here. In GA it was easy and then when it got cold they went into the sun room. Here I have a screened in porch. Maybe there are tiny green houses that I can put on a screened in porch?

I had a lot of car stuff yesterday. I had replaced my battery last month. Well my light came on yesterday so I went to the car parts store. They checked it and got different readings so concluded it was probably the alternator. I had oil dripping from my car after my last oil change (a couple weeks ago), so I needed to get everything checked out. That turned into a cracked something that was leaking oil into my alternator, which caused it to short out, and it was time to change my timing belt. So….a really fun day. My car is all fixed up and ready for lots of use now. I drove home and then got an Uber to go get my husband’s car from the service center at another place. He has had no heat in his car all winter. So I picked his car up and paid that bill. I’m broke today. H is also with ds1 & 2 skiing - which was a planned expense. So fun week so far. At least everyone is safe and the cars are good.

Please just end me already the kids have another stomach bug and I have it and am vomiting. We ran out of mexicane cola and of course DH is not home.
Dd vomited in the sanctuary during prayers at Hebrew school. First in her mask then all over the floor. The rabbi’s wife cleaned it up🤦♀️. Mortified is an understatement.

Do we think the weatherman know what they are talking about? Will we have real snow in New England Tuesday? My faith in weather forecasters isn't high at the moment- we had winter storm warnings and lots of hype for this past Thursday - not for a dramatic storm, but enough to cause trouble - they said 5-8 inches and in some places chance of wintery mix/ice too - though the details kept changing - all the high school basketball tournament games for Thursday got rescheduled, which even meant having to change some ferry schedules. high school basketball is an absurdly huge deal here so that's a much bigger disruption than it sounds like. But also medical practices had a 2 hour delay, which is rare; other stuff too. We got a dusting. Like maybe half an inch? And it was solidly cold; no ice. I hope the forecast for Tuesday comes more true than that one did!

DS1 was vomiting all night. So just waiting for the next one of us to fall. I’m hoping all the cleaning we’ve done will help mitigate the spread. I’ve learned regular Clorox wipes won’t kill norovirus but you can get Clorox hydrogen peroxide wipes that will. I’ve found them on Amazon. Lysol spray will as well but has a longer contact time. I have emetophobia, so I’m intense about trying to contain it. Also means I will be spiraling this week into pure panic mode.
