I found out I'm deficient in vitamin D, so now I have to take horse pill supplements. But everything else came back normal, so at least it's not a major thing.

The pills we take are little I think someone’s playing you I'm pretty deficient. I have to take 50000 units once a week for three months before switching to smaller doses. What was your level? I take 2000 daily as maintenance. Seattle doesn’t get nearly enough sun in fall and winter so supplements are a must. I did the high dose when mine was low (9 I think was the level), but I only did 6 weeks. I hope you start feeling better soon!

I just got tested for vitamin d as welland was deficient - have been only very rarely remembering to take vitamins the last few years. My doc said to take 4000 iu now; 2000 could be enough in the summer. The 1000 is capsules are tiny and cheap - I just have to remember I need to take B12, too (also deficient in that); need to find a different kind because the ones I have are ok as chewable but if I try to just dissolve them (sublingual is supposed to be best for absorbing B12) it seems like it takes an hour. Probably actually 30 mins but still too long. I want to stick with methyl b12 though not cyano. Any of you have a kind to recommend? athena did she say why to take just the weekly dose for now, rather than daily also, or daily doses that woukd add up to that? Curious.

Honestly, I got the call while still half asleep. I'm not sure what the trade off is.

I don’t know any of my levels. Maybe that will be one of my to-do’s this year.

Of course he didn't have any symptoms before the diagnosis, so it Wasabi surprise

He was able to reverse it by losing weight and exercising regularly. I hope your H’a numbers are good!

So DS has had a slight fever for 3 days and acough and sore throat. He is very tired and lethargic which is totally not like him. It's not the flu or strep and he tested negative for COVID. Anyone have this? Is it just a random virus? I don't want to go to the pedi if it's not necessary because I don't want him to catch something else.

I caught it for the second time last month and was sick for almost a week before I started turning a test (Thanks vaccines), which basically meant that I wasn't contagious when symptoms first appeared. Could also be a random virus. RSV has been bad this year as well.

It took about 5 days to be back to normal routine. It was a virus that ran its course. If the sore throat is severe or the fever is sustained high, I would call the pedi. Otherwise, treat the symptoms and let it runs it’s course. I also do test for Covid every other day when they’re unwell as we have had a ton of cases at school lately. I hope he feels better soon.

Thanks everyone! luvboston ,since he has a cough as well, I don't think it's strep. athena I didn't even think of RSV... mrscheese I think I'm going to COVID test him again. One of my friends said it took 4 days for her to test positive even though she knew it was COVID because her daughter had it. At least DS doesn't have a fever today, but pretty much the same otherwise...

Definitely test again for covid, but it easily could be rsv or some other virus. Has he had very little appetite? That's the one (other than severe scary things) that really stands out for rsv on the comparing-symptoms/which illness is it charts. Not that it's guaranteed of course; just a likely indicator . I wonder if by the time our kids have kids there will be easy home tests for all this stuff! It'd be so nice to know something more than "just a virus". Though I guess the main reason there aren't now, given that it would technically be possible, is it wouldn't be profitable enough, so ...who knows.

I wish we had at home flu tests.

Dd1 stayed home again today. She hadn't vomited since yesterday morning around 8am, but when I went up to get her today, she said that her forehead was hurting all night long. What likely happened was that she didn't drink enough water yesterday, and got slightly dehydrated, and it caused a migraine. I gave her the migraine meds I have for her this morning before I left, and she stayed home with Dh because I needed to come to my parents to do a car seat event. She perked up, and was fine all day and evening. Then at bedtime when Dh was trying to get her to take a Tylenol, she had a breakdown and wouldn't take it. Dh called me, and I got Dd1 to tell me why she wouldn't take it (she was worried it would make her throw up). I finally managed to get her to agree to take it, by saying she could have a water bottle with her tonight, and agreed to send Dh a funny cat ticktock for her to watch. It worked, and hopefully she can go back to school tomorrow.

Sorry for all the sicknesses. I feel like there have been a lot with my students the last 2 weeks. Our student workers have been out non stop too (fever n,v,d & Covid).
Ds almost overflowed the bathtub on Monday. He started the water and then sat on the toilet with his iPad. It was close, but his brothers walked in on him and told on him (so grateful they did this). So we took all kid devices away. We needed a reset and my kids help 0% around the house. I realize this is a parenting fail and it’s on me, but it’s also on us to make some positive changes. It was H’s idea to take them away. They have morning and evening lists of “chores” (get dressed, make your bed, take a bath, put your shoes away, carry your plates to the sink, take out trash, etc.). The change this week has been amazing. I’ve started having help. The kids are listening. I’m yelling less. Ds is helping me with his brothers. I never want to give the devices back……

I’m at ds’ school for an awards ceremony. It feels so weird to be inside a school again. I felt so awkward asking how to check in and where to go (and directions to get there). I also signed up to chaperone a field trip. Another unique feeling experience. Fun story. I grew up around an hour away from where we live now. I’m chaperoning a field trip to the planetarium. I actively remember going to that field trip when I was in 2nd grade. I’m really excited about it.
