Also, my grandma is not taking this seriously. She's 80, but was complaining because a pancake breakfast she bought tickets too was cancelled. And she's going on about how cancer is worse and we should be focusing on curing that. Thanks, Grandma. She's absolutely not planning on stopping her normal activity. At least my parents have finally decided to cancel their trip and my 85 year old grandpa is basically a shut in. This was my parents at first. They quickly got their butts in gear when people started dying and infection rates were doubling. My mom is 75. I'm more worried about my mom than she is. She's only 60, but she has a heart condition. She at least is cancelling activities. I think it's not as real for them yet, because we haven't had any cases near us. That's changing though, as it's finally moving out of Chicago in IL.

I feel really up in the air about everything. The government has gone all out on some things - sports, large events etc, but so half arsed on issues closer to home for me - like schools and travel. DH is at the end of 3 weeks away and I’m dreading a phonecall to say his rig is getting quarantined which would mean he was stuck there for another two. Mass makes me so sad how much it has changed and I’ll miss it so much if it gets cancelled altogether. Our supermarkets are decimated due to selfish pricks stockpiling. DD2 is so unwell with croup and there was no children’s medicine on the shelves bar one bottle that had been smashed. I had to do a food shop for my gran - all the own brand cheaper items had been wiped out and only the expensive brands left. She’s a pensioner ffs and is too proud to let me pay. The toilet roll and soaps aisle was a ghost town...that was on her list. In times like these I like to think community spirit will win the day...will it fuck! I’m sad 😢 Could you just pay for some stuff and tell her it was on sale or something? Oh hell no...she demands receipts!

MN just announced that schools close on Wednesday through atleast march 27th. Our gov announced mandatory 3 weeks and moving to online. I’m thankful that our school was already headed in this direction. The local public schools had only called form 1 week so far, and no plans yet to go to online. The slow trickle of a changing reality is emotionally exhausting though.

We're watching church online as in person services are cancelled. It's weird. We did online church a whole lot when DS was a fussy non-sleeping baby. Pretty amazing to have it so widely available now. I grabbed the basic outline and verses for the kids’ Sunday school lessons off the church website and went over that with them first. DS was literally bouncing on us by the end of it so we switched to basement playtime while DH and I each got showers. Then we got the kids dressed, I found a forgiveness coloring page that aligned with DD’s lesson and printed that out for them, and got them situated with snacks so DH and I could watch the sermon. It worked out pretty well so that will probably be our basic outline for Sundays until we can return to normal.

We'll fix that for next week. DD2 fell asleep on the couch.

I just sent badge work for 3 daisy petals and 2 leaves as well as 2.5 brownie badges to all my parents. So that's another thing we'll be doing at home.

They haven’t closed public schools here and I am so confused to why. 7 cases are here and 1 death. They closed down the universities. I just don’t understand not closing the public schools. Nonetheless we doing our part and social distancing and preparing for the kids to be home with us.

Along with the school closures they announced 6 new cases, so we’re doubling now. One of the cases is in our city. People are still in denial. I get it, it’s a lot to come to terms with, but the commenting online is stupid and maddening.

I was going to put my work story out there on our private board but I can't log in all of a sudden. Maybe I don't have the right password?

Use the internet to look at what’s happening where denial persisted like Italy. Not good. You have time! Make the most of it, people!

Every time you think about going out and living your normal life remember 2 people on this board are pregnant and in a couple of months will need doctors to deliver our babies and take care of us. In Italy women who need c sections cannot get them bc the doctors need to take care of the seriously ill.
Also remember our parents have cancer and still need to go to treatment.

School is now shut down tomorrow too. And so is the library and dance class. I don't foresee us leaving the house in the next two weeks

I think it's interesting that each state is doing its own thing and that there's no federal directive. It's no use if one state closes down and the state next to it does not.

That’s what we are like - our closest neighbours Ireland and France are shutting down, but the U.K. govt is still pushing “herd immunity” It makes me so angry. In Northern Ireland (UK) schools are still open and less than a mile away schools in the Republic are closed. In Scotland we have a nationalist government whose priority above all else is independence and not being dictated to by UK government....however... The Scottish government is actually responsible for schools and education (and health for that matter) and the First Minister has the power to close schools - but she is blindly following Westminster and UK government policy - so nervous to make a decision. #closethwschoolsuknow is a thing

I just read that CT and NY will make a joint decision about whether to close restaurants, bars, etc. which actually makes sense.

Nyc public schools are now closes until April 20th but there was mention of not going back this school year. 😳 Also, I emailed my entire class on Friday evening asking parents to just confirm their email address by letting me know they got it...6 kid’s parents have not responded yet. This does not bode well for distance learning.

There was a press conference Friday stating that our schools would stay open. Just got the call that they are closed until further notice. So no plan in place, no work sent home. They might be making teachers go in the next couple days to make plans/assemble work (to mail? Send out via the buses? Who knows...). That's what we now have to do - they finally announced today school closed for 2 weeks (at least) but all staff have to go in at least M and T - first, maybe only - project is to assemble work for students. Can't bring our own kids with us, so scramble to find care for school age ones. Argh. Ds can still go to daycare but dd's is in her school so is closed.
