Oh man I’d be stressed about doing it solo too. Divide and conquer is so much better than trying to squeeze 3 people into a bathroom stall, and I always get the more mature, better listener. You’ll do great though. My kids like to listen to audio books in the car. I am going to play the “let’s see who can not touch anything and get a tootsie roll” game every time we have to go to the bathroom. 😬 Audio books for the kids never crossed my mind. That’s such a great idea! My kids love Pixar stories on Audible.

meggypoo1 we did 12 hours twice during the pandemic here’s how we did it. We left when the kids would normally be sleeping drove for 5 hours if just ds1 had to pee we would just stop at a rest stop with no services with minimal ppl and he peed on a bush or in our portable toilet. Put masks and gloves on. If we had to go one adult went with him in a big stall he didn’t touch anything. We had gloves on and would rip the toilet paper hanging. Then take off gloves and put fresh tp on toilet then have him go wipe him. Put dirty part of glove on tp holder go ourselves put gloves back on. Then go to car put gloves in trash. Wash hands with baby wipes and then sanitizer. We brought all our own food but if you do have to get food only use drive thrus. If we had gone to hotel our plan was to wipe all surfaces with Lysol including all handles in bathroom and floor of shower. We were going to bring our own sheets. Lay one king size sheet over bed. Then use sleeping bags or a flat sheet to sleep on and bring own pillows. Bc we read hotels were not fully changing sheets between ppl. We also would have asked for a first floor room which we never do so we didn’t have to take elevator. In car Ds1 played on phone, tablet and with his toys but he slept a lot. We also played I spy with him. And every 5 mins he asked if we were there yet but he does that even going to my parents. Or criticizes our driving. Bring dunkin or Starbucks drinks in a cooler so you don’t have to get coffee or coke. We listened to Johns Hopkins mental first aid one day.

New island counter top is finally in. Who ever installed the old tile one used 3x as many nails as was actually needed. And there were 2 layers of tile on it, because why not. There was also a row of tile along the edge of the counter behind the wood trim. I feel like the island needs a coat of paint now...... Nice I agree maybe blue? We have a blue top with similar color wood as yours it looks nice I looked through the paint I already have, and found an almost full gallon on this color. I used it to refinish a dresser a couple of years ago. If I do it I want to use something i already so there will be minimal cost, and this color has the most paint in the can. Only problem is that ut is a flat finish, and therefore isnt the easiest to clean. I woukd still be ok using it and then just doing touchups omce a year.

That’s such a great idea! DH drove round trip to Indiana to pick up his dad. They decided rest areas were too gross & crowded so they ended up using the pet areas instead 😂. Wouldn’t work as well for you , but you could bring a portable potty for the kids or have them go behind a tree and not even bring them inside if you don’t have to use the facilities too. He slept at Hampton Inns halfway both ways and said they were very COVID aware, had a seal on the door and everything was very clean

So basically, the outdoor parts of rest areas are now going to be gross too? Great. Thanks, coronavirus! 😈

scotty have you had anymore bear trouble? Thankfully, no. We let our poultry take over the backyard and they don't go out without an electric fence now. We never saw the bear again on the trail cameras.

I ventured out today to the hairdressers - which is a huge step for me ha ha.
It’s so weird.
The door is locked and they let you in at your allocated time.
You have to have your temp taken by a scanner, wear a mask, and then wear a plastic disposal cape. There’s no towels and the hairdresser wears a full face size visor.
They aren’t allowed to answer the phone if clients are in the shop and there’s no magazines or drinks. All the seats are partitioned off with plastic full length barriers.
Hairdressers are only allowed one client at a time - so no doing other customers while hair colour is developing.
It’s like being in outer space.

There are plastic firm walls up around every booth. We also have to sign waivers every time we enter.

I made an appointment for the girls and I to get hair cuts in a couoke of weeks when we are with my parents. The lady does it out of her house, and has a similar policy. I'm hoping the girls do ok with having their masks on and getting tgeir haircut. The hardest part is going to be keeping dd2 still while i get mine done.

My hair salon has no waiting area, food, drinks or magazines. Only 2 of 4 stylists can work at a time and everyone has to wear masks. They won't accept kids right now because it means there is an extra person in the salon. Where DH goes, and where we took DS on Sunday, you have to check in online and then wait outside until they called you and everyone had to wear masks. Both places had strict cleaning guidelines between clients. I felt comfortable at each place.

We are visiting my dad and his wife in a few weeks and they want us to get Covid tests as a precaution because they are considered high risk. I'm totally fine with that but the clinic that does them said that insurance likely won't cover the office visit or test if we're not symptomatic. Gee, I wonder why we're having such issues with this spreading...

Is CT offering any testing through state/local public health programs under a standing order rather than needing to go through a Dr or clinic? Ideally that will go to a state lab not Quest or other companies with huge backlogs?

She said to allow 10 days for results. We can't get it too early either.

Not all that useful for making sure he's not infected for that visit given that he will be going to day care in between the test and the visit and that long wait time means having to test too much 8n advance of the visit. And seriously embarrassing that out country hasn't gotten this figured out better!!#

lrmrtn - can you explain it for me please? Aren’t any covid tests covered through insurance? What if you have symptoms? Can you not just go to a drive through? Are they free? Is it different in each state or does it depend on your insurance? I’m confused. Why aren’t all covid tests just free?

So if I want a test - either for the sake of it or if I have symptoms, I just fill out an online form and am given a time. (When DH lost his sense of smell, he was given a slot within a hour of submitting the form) Turn up, do the test and get a text message with the results within 24 hours. Plus it’s free to everyone who wants one.
Why has testing gotten so complicated in the US?

In happy news....we are going to mass on Sunday 🎉🎉🎉.
We had to book tickets on Eventbrite (weird!)
There are only 30 tickets available on each Sunday. Weekday mass hasn’t resumed.
No singing, a one way system, fewer prayers (I imagine the ones the congregation say together have been removed), no holy water, no wine and you are given communion on the way out of the door (so you don’t take your mask off indoors I suppose).
It will be over so quickly and I’m sure a very surreal experience BUT I can not wait and have missed church so much.

Is it different in each state or does it depend on your insurance? I’m confused. Why aren’t all covid tests just free? According to the clinic, insurance companies only cover the test if you're symptomatic. The turnaround time for tests used to be 3-5 days but it's up to ten days now because there is a backlog due to so many cases. As far as I know only hospitals are using the rapid test on their staff. I can go to the clinic and get a test with an appointment but it's harder for kids. The pedi has to order one. There are so many things wrong with this that it's no wonder we can't get it under control. ETA: I don't know how it is in other states. CT had a lot more walk in testing centers during our peak but a lot here closed since cases are declining. Even the drive-thrus require an appointment.

I don’t get why you need symptoms to get a test. When often, a person can be asymptomatic. I saw a study in the nursing times that carried out a project in Italy at the height of their peak - 40% of those testing positive had no symptoms (and actually quite a number of those went on to develop symptoms later). The backlog for results is just scary in this day and age.

And waiting 10 days for the results is completely pointless and defeats the purpose surely.
DH gets tested before every work trip. Following the test, he has to quarantine in the airport hotel room (no leaving the room under any circumstances) until his flight check in.
Reassuringly, they are picking up quite a few positive tests at his company...so far, all asymptomatic. Those guys are sent straight home to isolate and not allowed back for 14 days and following a negative test.
