Thank you dear. How is the moving life going? It’s going. Yesterday was truck day. We loaded it and it was perfect weather despite it saying 80% chance of storms all day! Today’s weather was supposed to be better so even thought about waiting, it’s currently pouring. Today is cleaning day and fighting with the landlord. He said we could stay the weekend (Clara’s dance recital is tomorrow night and we will leave Sunday morning). He is now saying it’s 3 days? And he won’t to the move out walk through until 10am Sunday. We were trying to drive 8 hours Sunday. I hate him for this (we did pay for the extra two days as well). Thanks for asking!

Dd2 has been talking non stop since I got up this morning. Only 7 more sleeps till they go to my parents for a weekend. I'm not telling them about it till the night before hand, and they haven't been there since Christmas.

Like ordering pizza somehow equals ordering a kid?!?! Wtaf Pizzagate. It's a thing. It is widely debunked, but people with persist. I’m also seeing posts about how covid is somehow tied to a cover up of sex trafficking children.

No no no sillies, it's a conspiracy to get us to get microchips inserted for tracking/cashless society. Mark of the devil. Apocalypse.
Though the message I saw about that was clearly recycled from years ago, just tweaked a bit for covid19, because it then had this long part laying out evidence that Obama is the antiChrist. 🤔🙄
Awww ... While I was typing this ds was giving his baby doll a cookie (holding it to dolls mouth) and saying nummy nummy nummy 💕

I hope they’re installing air purifiers in the schools. There are whole home ones and also room ones that would help get the virus out of the air.

But I'm afraid many are still stuck on obsessing about surfaces - red herrings like "deep cleaning" buses, etc before the start of the school year (when nobody has been in them for at least days, probably weeks, so really no need) and making sure kids never share any materials. (I agree pencils, etc that they use all the time and tend to put in mouths should not be shared. But if a kid uses a ruler or calculator or even looks at a book that another kid toughed a while ago ... Not that high risk, really) There's a report from some group at Harvard that researches/advocated for healthier school buildings that recommends air filters but it doesnt seem to be getting a lot of attention.

I also cannot imagine there is the budget for that. Just a small air filter for our living room was a few hundred dollars. We literally just got an air conditioner for each classroom (not even spaces like the gym) at the end of last school year and that was because the PTO funded most of them. I’m not even sure the electric panel could handle all of the technology being used plus air conditioners at the same time. And the amount of teacher hate I’m seeing on Facebook right now is so, so disheartening. 😔

Putting all virus worries aside I can't understand the amount of supposed adults who think yelling and shaming teachers and administrators into opening is a good way to act. The schools have been given little guidance and no extra funding to handle all this. It's despicable that some people think it's a teachers job to do pull a safe school environment out of their ass with little to no help

@scout I agree about there not being a budget for air filters, but still it seems like it would be a good goal to try to get and a more effective use of some of the money being spent on cleaning supplies and even on replacing tables with individual desks. But you're also totally right about electrical systems in some of our buildings probably not being able to handle it. and ugh the teacher hate is depressing. And the anti-mask stuff (not the legit "I'm worried it will be hard to get kids to keep masks on" or even worry about kids being uncomfortable, impacts of not seeing full facial expressions, etc - those are things to have rational conversations about. I mean the "I'm not gonna teach my kid to be a sheeple!" nonsense. Especially from people who deck their kids out in licensed clothing for local professional sports teams and/or go whole-hog on school spirit days.

And the comments about taking pay cuts so people can get their property taxes back or that teachers who don’t like it should pick a new career...just ugh! I am now actually considering taking childcare leave if I can figure out how to afford it who the hell do they think is going to fill in for all the teachers that need or want to take leave? Obviously I’m fired up about this today. 😏

I thought schools got federal government money for the extra expenses of covid. Maybe it’s not much when you divide it between schools, idk? Just seems like an air purifier at schools and daycares would be a worthwhile investment even without covid. Oh what could be if we invested in schools and safety.

You're right that once it's all divided out it doesn't come out to as much as it sounds like it would when you hear the gigantic total! I'm not sure about other states - it's likely the ratio is the same or worse -in Maine the federal covid response money (so far) available for schools is only around half of the estimated minimum extra needed. And I'm pretty sure that's just for extra costs; not taking into account the huge drop in sales, lodging, and meals tax revenue that the state will face, which reduces what's available for just regular school budgets. But in addition what's sad is that so much guidance so far has urged all this attention to surface cleaning and the materials for that plus the extra custodian hours cost money; that and various other purchases which may really not help as much all quickly adds up to what air filters would cost (at least in buildings with an adequate electrical system to be able to run them) even at 300 or 400 a pop. And they'd also help some with other longstanding air quality issues in many school buildings. It's also sad that even as the efforts to meet safety guidelines for reopening schools for having students in the buildings bring attention to the poor condition of so many schools, and the lack of space, sinks, ventilation, etc - (even in new buildings in communities that didn't/couldn't afford to locally fund more than what the state formula for new buildings would provide) - basically to the effects of decades of drastic neglect of/failure to invest in school buildings, its so unlikely that much of that pattern will change.
