So my French friend said her 1st grader was back in school in June and July but they didn’t have lunch at school; so she went to school 8am-11am, back home for lunch 11am-1pm, then back to school 1pm-4pm. Solves the eating at school without a mask problem: but total childcare disaster. I would have given my kid a packed lunch and told them to eat it outside the school gates 😂. That sounds like a nightmare - you would just be at home watching the clock or having to take a huge lunch break everyday from work to accommodate it.

We ordered a swing set over a month ago. Delivery said mid July, but it was in state by the end of June, so we thought it would be delivered sooner. DH finally called as it looked to just be sitting at ups for 2 weeks, and they were like oh, someone should have called to you schedule. Ok, so scheduled now for today, and they asked can a tractor trailer fit on your street. Yep, sure.
So this morning the utility company shows up, parks 2 cars in front of our house, blocks off the cul-de-sac with cones and trucks, and are fully digging a big hole in the road. 😩 what are the chances?
We’re also expecting a refrigerator repair man today to assess why our fridge isn’t keeping temp. Dh was worried about coordinating him and his vehicle with where we’re going to drop the pallets of swing set, but that seems like a minor piece now.

Oh ffs a landscaping truck with a giant trailer just parked directly across from our driveway. What is even happening?

The swing set and fridge are more important that a road! Being silly, but I’m sorry it’s a bigger challenge now. My parents ordered a new couch/chair/whatever for their living room. They sold their previous ones a month ago (after they purchased the new set), and the delivery date keeps getting moved back - July, August, tbd. Lol it sure makes the room look big when it’s empty!

The landscapers weren’t there long. They had to back the truck/trailer back down the road though, and were doing so just as the fridge repair guy showed up. That was a fun little dance to watch. The repair man was like wow, seems busy around here. Apparently he had also just had to wait 15 mins in traffic down the road for a vehicle to be cleared or something.
Hole-in the road utility worker is still going on, no swing set yet.
Fridge needs a new defroster. It’s under extended warranty since our previous fridge blew a condenser around the 3 year mark. 👍

comicsans, that sucks with the fridge. Thankfully it's under warranty. I've had lots of friends have appliances go out recently. I shouldn't talk about it as it will probably jinx us

I shouldn't talk about it as it will probably jinx us I know there are several in the group with fridge and freezer problems! I read somewhere that the average lifespan of modern appliances is 7 years. Our washing machine kicked the bucket right around 7 years, and the newer one had already had a major part replaced. Our first fridge, almost identical to the current, died around 3 years just after the warranty was up - would have been about $800 to fix and we couldn’t guarantee the second compressor wouldn’t give out soon after. Meanwhile the 1984 side by side we have in the basement is going strong.

He told us to get a GE (or Whirlpool) that is pretty basic and it will run for 10 years. He said he gets a lot of repair calls on Samsung. Our freezer doesn’t make ice anymore. I buy ice and dump it in the ice thing for the door lol.

Our contractor said to never get rid of it because new dryers don’t last 5years and Can’t be repaired. Vs our 40yo one will last forever and easy to repair. Good news is the contractor is suppose to come by tomorrow to get his deposit and sign the contract so we should be getting new stairs and a new door free of mouse poop next week! Did I mention we spent 2 weeks demolishing our garage stairs and doors because we had a huge mice infestation . I can’t wait for the house to not smell of mouse shit anymore

Have any of you tried to see the comet yet? Any tips?
It seems tonight will be the clearest - maybe the only clear - night in the next week so we're going to try a bit later when it's darker.

We've had rain and clouds so far so nothing to see here. Boo. I hope you get a clear night sometime in the next week or so. This was the first clear night we have had and might be the only one so I was anxious to see it tonight. And we (I let dd stay up) did! It looks like a smudge more or less, but still - pretty cool - just knowing that it's a comet. And it is definitely noticeable as something that isn't usually in that part of the night sky (between big dipper and horizon) I didn't feel like binoculars helped much but also don't have great binoculars.

But also isn’t as apparently I have a very intense fear of mice. We have them in our garage - they ate and destroyed everything in sight. But now they are in our loft. I hear them at night and can’t sleep so play movies until I fall asleep. I’m starting to dread bedtime. I also hear a lot of flapping at night too and suspect that’s bats as I see them when I take the dog out last thing. I don’t mind if bats are in the loft - if only they are mice. Thank fuck we are moving.

The utility work wrapped up and they patched the hole and left right at 4:30. Delivery came at 5, so it all worked out fine. DD lost her mind when we told her what it was 🥳 Now we have to put it together, so you can pray for my marriage hah

I talked to my mom, and she is going to take my kids for a weekend in August. I'll take them over there on Friday morning, come home and then dh and I can get the carpet up from under the washer and dryer and get the new flooring down without them here. I know that if they are here they are going to start puking the moment we unhook and move the washer. Then I'll go over on Sunday and spend a few days there visiting. I'm already planning on going to the chiro the morning I drop them off, and at least 1 other time the following week. 3 weeks from tomorrow I get freedom!
