mrscheese FX you avoid it. Just as an anecdote, the neighbor girl got it and we didn't. We carpool and I watch her after school until her parents get home (usually around 30 min), so we were in close contact right before she tested positive.

Same here. We had a fisher cat when we first lived here, but since we’ve cleaned up the yard we haven’t seen it. It was living in an old brush pile. I need to Google fisher cat. Never heard of that. They are similar to a mink, but a little bigger. They are kinda creepy looking to see in your backyard. But we only saw it a handful of times before it disappeared.

Covid is closing in on us…. Notices about cases in Cots class and those positives have siblings in J’s class. 😑 😣 😩 🤞😷🤞😷🤞 I can't remember - is Cot 5 yet? 5.5 and fully vaxxed!

He’s doing ok. He’s home…after finally being discharged at 11pm Monday night 😒. Seems to be doing okay but honestly he’s a horrible patient and it’s so hard to tell how much “man cold” syndrome is going on. I’m really struggling with feeling overwhelmed/resentful/burnt out and I know that’s a shitty and selfish way to be but I was already feeling that way before everything going on. It’s going to be a long month…

It’s going to be a long month… I’m so glad he is home. I know helping someone recover from surgery puts more stress on you which is why I really wanted to check on you too. We let people out of the hospital when they are safe, not necessarily when they don’t need a lot of help. I think it is completely normal to feel all that you feel. You’ve got so much on your plate. Thinking of you. Edit: I remember after my mom had shoulder surgery years ago they were discharging her and she was dry heaving and throwing up. I asked for nausea medicine and they told me they could not because her iv was out. I had to tell them I was a nurse so i knew that wasn’t true. Then they helped her and I was able to bring her home.

I have such a hard time catching up on here, still busy and tired. There is always so much to clean at home and do and can't keep up with that either. It is a lot harder with BF and his opposite shifts. He tends to not clean when home and says he is tired from shift work, and then I don't feel like doing everything later at night when I am home. Such an endless circle.
I just ordered some supplements to help with menopause as I am feeling so exhausted all the time and it doesn't feel normal from not enough sleep. I truly think the lack of hormones is killing me. let's hope these pills can help me even a little bit!

It is amazing how DH and I can go round and round about the same things when it comes to cleaning and it just doesn't sink in for him.

Speaking of cleaning, I don't know if I ever curse as much as I do when I'm changing the sheets on the bunk beds. It's a whole workout.

And I don't even change sheets nearly as often as one ought to!

State dept of ed announced today that schools that require masks don't have to contact trace anymore. It's taking too much staff time and with omicron they say its probably not very useful anyway (too late).
Ugh ugh ugh ugh
Especially since the school I work at will totally jump on this but mask compliance is horrible - worse than ever. And nobody's going to address that. The school nurse's own kid is?walking around with his nose hanging out. Dd's district has tons in the high school. Elementaries not as bad ...yet...

Honestly we stopped wearing masks like a month and half ago in school. Spread hasn't changed. If you're a vaccinated healthy individual the risk of severe illness with omnicron is minimal. We live with risk all the time, I think covid in some form is here to stay and it is about learning to live with it and manage risks.

Basically she's the only one enforcing it in her classroom. Of course she's the prek teacher, so she's also the only one whose students can't get vaxxed yet either.

Our primary kids have never had to wear masks since going back to school since the first lockdown. Schools stopped making classmates isolate or test a while back if someone in the class tested positive. We only have to isolate for seven days if you do test positive. Case rates are sky high but hospital admissions low and deaths lower. I feel comfortable with all of this (and DS was a shielding child).

I agree with this in theory but I’m not there yet fully in my life day to day. Speaking for myself and myself only, this message can sometimes come off as insensitive, especially when not all can be vaxxed, like under 5’s, or if you’re like me and need multiple inhalers just to get over a common cold (happened to me over Xmas and honestly, yes, Covid, mild or not, scares me because of this). That said, no masks right now makes me shake my head. Just because we live with and are accepting of risk does not mean we should not try to mitigate infections. I have a friend in the hospital right now that was vaxxed and boosted and it didn’t end up being mild. It’s probable that they didn’t get omicron based on symptoms, but still. Masks, distancing when possible and testing when you can, especially when you have symptoms, is very effective and honestly, pretty simple (well, not the testing right now but masks and distancing when you can are). IDK, A log winded way of saying that we’re not all on the same pandemic page and that’s ok.

Fair but also, she has an unvaxxed toddler, so kind of irrelevant to her specific situ.

Last week and earlier this week our high temp was just above or below zero. Today the high when I picked up the girls was 45, and Dh fired up the grill and cooked burgers for dinner. On Friday we are expected to get 3-8in of snow.
Welcome to MN, where you can have different weather every day of the week.

I complained in an email to the superintendent about masks being optional in 2 weeks. The email said the peak should be in one week, so the week after is fine (sarcastic)? We are told they can’t guarantee to keep everything open due to lack of staff. He told me thank you for my opinion. I wrote back and asked him to please help me understand his logic.

I was just trying to share that I my experience madks/ no masks haven't made much of a difference in the elementary school spread so it may be just fine. I tried to clip this to the just the part that this reply is to but failed. So if i have time there may be another reply to same quoted msg but diff part. Honestly, I'm curious about that data (no change in case rates without masks) and wonder what we will end up finding out once there's time for scientists to look over what's available and gather it into studies and analyze. As much as i am all in on masks, it certainly could be possible that between there being times when masks come off (lunch and snack and some schools do mask breaks indoors too) and other factors like many people's masks being loose or gappy, people not actually covering nose and mouth, etc, that having masks in school doesn't help that much, especially with omicron. I have anecdotes from people here now who are still super careful in home/community life and whose kids wear masks (and aren't going and hanging at friends houses, etc ) and yet one of the kids has just (in the last week+ since school resumed) tested positive so they think the kid must have caught it at school despite mask rule. For pre-omicron there is decent data that mask requirements at school help, though maybe really looking at UK data for not requiring masks in schools would be better because within the US communities that don't require masks in schools largely also have lower adherance to covid precautions in other aspects of life too. Anyway I'm glad the change isn't looking disastrous in your community, but still think it is so strange and really bad role-modeling for school leaders (including school boards) to be refusing to follow guidance from public health experts especially at a time when hospitals are overwhelmed and asking for help. That's different from stopping contact tracing in schools; that was actually supported by our CDC director in acknowledgement that they couldn't keep up and by the time people were told their kid was a close contact it was likely too late anyway. So it's more a "this is so bad we just gotta let some things slide and this one has the lowest bang for the (time) buck, so it goes)". Depressing because its evidence for how bad things are. Our delta wave was later than most of the rest of the country so we went into omicron from already highest-ever rates. It's bad. Hospitals continuing to set new records a few times a week.
