I am so sick of bullying. I’m sick of dealing w a kid who is being bullied, I’m sick of talking to the teachers and I’m sick of all the parents who don’t teach their kids that being mean is the worst thing you can be. I’m so angry for you that this is still happening. What’s wrong with people? It’s not hard to be kind.

luvboston that sucks that your kid (ds1?) is being bullied and school people don't seem to be helping. I'm sorry. What kind of stuff are the kids saying and doing? I feel like here we do a ton of antibullying stufv in elementary school and it works pretty well for a while but completely falls apart in middle school, partly because it's middle school but also because that's how the adults are - so many both in the kids daily lives and on tv, etc model absolutely horrible behavior, language, and attitude on a regular basis. Strangely (or not) some of the parents who are themselves the worst (bullyish) online and even in person are often the same ones who are real quick to say their kid is being bullied when they arent really. Which I don not at all think is what's going on in your case, but its out there. Augh. Why can't people just be civil? (Rant partially due to mask protest at school today and asinine behavior if some parents and grandparents along with it - swearing at superintendent in front of students; tons of online name calling ...)

springbeduk, I'm sorry about the mask protests. There was a lot of stuff posted online about being kind to those who chose not to wear masks when the district went optional a couple weeks ago. And surprise surprise, it was those kids who bullied mine. Thankfully, DD1's teacher was on top of it and addressed the specific students DD1 named, but like check yourself first, fam.

Also we're in the middle of our second big snow storm of the month and stuck at home again. H thankfully decided not to try for work. There are a ton of accidents and parts of the interstate have had to be closed.

Good luck with the snowstorm athena; glad your H stayed home! I hope you don't lose power. Sounds like we will probably be going mask optional soon after Feb vacation - at least once any post-vacation surge settles down but maybe regardless. Dd's district too though they're talking about easing it in building by building and maybe hers will be last since there's pre-k too so some under-5s. We'll see. Not happy about it at all but then again even now it seems there's kids catching it at lunch so maybe it won't really matter. But definitely makes it feel like we're just gonna end up getting it before ds can be vaccinated. Frustrating. I'll pretty surely have dd keep wearing a mask but i don't know if ds's day care mom will have her kids keep wearing masks. Probably but maybe not. And they only wear cloth ones.

luvboston I’m so sorry. It’s maddening and heartbreaking. I’m glad he has a mom like you who is standing up and fighting for him. You shouldn’t ever have to fight this much for decency. America 2022 is really something.

mrscheese, the vitriol from the anti-maskers is so awful. And so full of misinformation. I'm with you. It's the adults that are the problem.

mrscheese The antimaskers are awful. We haven't had masks all year so they have now moved on to protesting in front of the school, working to get books banned, tried to vote down the operating expenses referendum claiming it would promote sexual abuse (wtf), and now working to get the word "equity" banned. They are now the anti CRT and SEL crowd and since our district played into their anti mask BS now they want to see how much control they really have. Unfortunately it isn't going to stop with masks.

M had a kidney checkup yesterday and his numbers were the same or slightly better than last time. His new urology meds are helping his kidneys and we are relieved something finally seems to be working. His numbers are still not great but didn't get worse and that's all we can ask for at this point.

mrscheese that is horrible. Our district is going mask optional as of March 1st. I have mixed feelings about it. DS is going to resist wearing it if he doesn't have to. We have a pretty high vaccination rate and low positivity rate here and the district is using those metrics to determine whether masks are required. They said they are going to reevaluate it on March 15th to see if there is an increase in cases.

We are completely mask optional here. Boys are wearing theirs still. I think I might start feeling more relaxed when the vaccines are available for all ages, but maybe that feeling of relaxedness is just a product of the laxity around here. mrscheese woah!!! Those comments are awful. I’m so sorry people are like that. Also I was playing baseball with Ds last night and just throwing and catching. I jammed my thumb catching the ball - and then I decided to use a glove. I couldn’t use my hand yesterday. Today it hurts, but I can use if. Yesterday I also spasmed my neck/shoulder in the morning getting clothes out of the washer (I’m short and was climbing in it almost to get to the bottom). Feeling old….

Our state is ending mask mandate for schools March 21st. Someone tweeted that the kids will be excited not to have masks. I replied that kids don’t really seem to care that much. Adults have made masks “a thing.” Kids just wear them and go about their business for the most part. The responses were so repulsive. Lol that people can get so angry about masks. They’re made of chemicals? Lol. So is everything else. You got to be dumber than rocks to be able to talked into thinking a cloth mask is abuse.

mrscheese, the vitriol from the anti-maskers is so awful. And so full of misinformation. I'm with you. It's the adults that are the problem. Agreed about the adults. A few months ago at DD's school there was a massive protest and police in full riot gear there to control it all. I had to walk DD through a line of heavily armed state police to get to the front door of the school. The whole time all I was thinking is this is what's scaring the kids not the masks. There is now a political candidate in PA whose commercial has him basically say he is a proud racist, homophobe, gun toting anti masker. He will probably win🙄 is getting hard to be positive some days.

In hindsight pitching the whole thing could have worked. There have been a lot of super-human mom-mode moments in the last couple of days. I’m a real rainbowsockmonkey. DD has it now too, but made it to the toilet the only time she threw up today. DS’s teacher had told me it wasn’t going around the classroom. Sorry to say it might now 😬

Just in case they can't make it to the bathroom.

DH put an EO on them 🤷♀️

@springdebuk it both boys the school takes forever to actually get things accomplished they pussy foot around until things get so bad there is actual violence. Ds1 is supposed to have an aide watching him at all times so there should be zero bullying or anything else happening. Ds1 friends came to help him as they saw something was wrong, then the principal interrogated Ds1 and his friends but they never actually found the kids that did the bullying And there were multiple snowballs being thrown clearly the staff aren’t paying any attention Next I will be going to sit at the playground if this continues.

This is totally random, but - in case it cheers anyone else up to hear examples of times when people don't suck - we went to my brother's this weekend and I forgot my ez-pass (and have also not yet updated the account for the new car/plates, because I forgot about it). I think it was the first time in at least 10 years I had to actually stop and pay cash tolls, and every single toll-booth worker - I think there were 5 because I recognized one same one on the way home - was really nice and friendly, not just non-rude, but putting a little extra effort into making it be an interaction that might brighten someone's evening a little bit.

Dh leaves today for a week in the office for the first time since covid hit. I don't know if I remember how to solo parent for days at a time. As a bonus we are supposed to get 12-18" of snow between tonight and tomorrow, so we'll also be snowed in. I could probably figure out how to plow but not while watching all 3 kids. Hopefully my dad can come clear the snow. This could get interesting.

I realize you still have a toddler, but I just stick to the routine and the kids know what to do. I do not plow, but have had to snowblow and just left the kids in the house, but again no toddler in the mix.
