In not surprising news, my SIL sucks. H called her yesterday to try and figure out plans for meeting her and MIL at a Ren Faire in September and it turns out she'll be in town this weekend. We live in a small town of 2000 people, so it's not like we're out of the way or anything. However, she told H that she doesn't want to see him at all. He's upset and now considering cancelling our plans with them. I don't know whether to encourage him to keep them or to cancel them. I’m so sorry to you H. My family has plenty of distinction and it’s just really hard at any event. MH’s family doesn’t have that. Mine didn’t until 4-5 years ago. It’s hard to navigate and I’m sorry your H is hurt. Edit: plenty of dysfunction

This was now days ago (oops - didnt realize it uad been so long since last reading here!) so probably he's already figured out how to respond, but - would it make sense to have plans for the Ren Faire hinge on if he wants to put effort into seeing his mother or not (like, sure, SIL will be there, and thats fine, but not worth making an effort to see her in particular)? Or is his sister the one he would mainly have wanted a visit with?

We were planning on meeting MIL for a trip over the summer, but SIL wanted to do the Faire so that was the option we were given. Basically, H is tired of coming in second for someone who doesn't give a shit about him.

It sucks when people play favorites and are inconsiderate.

It sucks when people play favorites and are inconsiderate. I really hate it for him. MIL has never really liked me, though she tolerates me, so it's no great loss to me if he goes low contact with them. But I've seen how they hurt him time and again and don't even think about it. This isn't the first time his sister hasn't told us she'd be in town. I doubt it will be the last. At least FIL is awesome.

H has decided we will still go, as the kids are excited, but we won't make any real effort to spend time with them. I'm guessing this will be the last time we "vacation" with them.

Love their brand of rain coats. Make sure you get waterproof and not just resistant. Also, consider if you’ll need to layer. I tend to get raincoats a little larger so I have room for warm layers if needed. Bogs are good if you need a little warmth. If you’re just looking for waterproof, I love crocs rain boots. We tend to skip rain boots and get waterproof shoes like Merrill’s or north face.

I want to take the kids to see the Redwoods and the Avenue of the Giants next!

There was a water main break and now we're under a boil order. So I'm drinking a lot more juice because it's too much work to boil and then cool water to drink.

What’s happening, ladies?
School started yesterday for us. Hallelujah! Do you hear the angels singing because I sure do 😂
We’ve been just surviving and going to baseball games. I’m only complaining about the surviving. I’d like to thrive and go to baseball games. Haha. I got an email from the Mariners today about purchasing playoff tickets. They’re sold in a strip and so when I buy them I will get tickets to some games in all the series including the World Series. Me buying World Series tickets?!?! What a time to be alive!
How’s things? Anything cool or fun happening?

Work has been busy, but I'm still enjoying it. My coworker started her maternity leave on Monday, and had her baby Tuesday night, so its down to 3 of us till around thanksgiving. We have mostly figured out our groove for getting everything done without her. I had my 3 month review a couple of weeks ago, and that went well, and I have a key to the store now. They also adjusted my hours so that I'm working 8:30-3:30. So I get there and can do a little prep work before everyone comes in and we have our daily meeting.
Crazy pants neighbor got out of prison almost 4 weeks ago. He isn't currently living at his house, but is there often enough. The biggest update about that isn't that he's out of prison, its that he seems to be doing well at this point. He and the neighbor across the street chatted one day last weekend, and crazy pants apologized for everything that happened over the last year, and seems to be taking this second chance thing seriously. I was over chatting with the neighbors earlier this week and he came home, and said hello to all of us. We said hello back, and chatted from a distance for a bit. I'm being cautiously optimistic about it all, but I really do hope that he continues with his meds and all the help he got in prison.
The kids start school next Thursday, and we have meet the teacher on Tuesday. They will be riding the bus part time in the afternoons on the days that Dh has to work, and then will be home alone for about 30min before I can get home. We've been leaving them home alone for bits during the summer, and feel mostly ok with it. The only thing that makes me a little nervous is Wednesday October through April when they get out of school 45 minutes earlier at 2:15. Then they will be home alone for a little over an hour some of those days.

We've been in school for a month now and it's going well. They are riding the bus this year so no car rider lines 🙌🏽 G asked about periods the other day so I guess we're having that talk sooner rather than later 😖 We thankfully didn't have bad weather with Idalia coming through. It did bring a "cold" front so it's only in the 80s the next few days. We've had triple digit temps and heat index for the past few weeks so this little break is nice. That's exciting mrscheese! The Yankees were here a few weeks ago and I didn't even bother to go to any of the games. The playoffs should be fun to watch this year though. Lots of really good teams. Glad to hear the job is going well rainbowsockmonkey!

I was promoted to a new position in July so I'm still getting a hang of it. I've had to travel a couple times already so that's a bit exhausting. But I get to wfh every day.
We did our 2 week trip to Italy and cruise. Everything went well and we had a great time. We did learn the hard way that DS gets seasick.🤮but we gave him Dramamine for the rest of the cruise and he was fine. He loved the kids club so we got breaks at times
DS went back to school this week so back to the usual...

Kids have been in school for a couple weeks now, and we're finally hitting our grove. The sale of my Grandpa's house fell through, so I've been helping my mom get it ready to list with a realtor, since the previous guy was a private sale and he was going to take the contents too. On top of that, I've been selling the more expensive collectibles online. So if you know anyone who is a Jimmie Johnson fan or likes Precious Moments, I may have something they'd want. In other news, I turned 36 last weekend and we hit our 13 year anniversary. We're going to an Axe Throwing Pub on Labor Day as a mini celebration so hope that goes well. I hope you get to go to all the playoff games mrscheese! Sounds fun.

Hi everyone!
We are getting ready for school and it’s insane. Private school is much less organized than public and they have a lot more get to know you events which is making me nuts. The kids have to wear school shirts the first day so of course we couldn’t find them as they were sent in April and now they are too small. Ds1 is having a very hard time since getting covid and now he caught something else which i think is rsv but pedi won’t rest him. You will find me on 95 all this year.

It took less than a week of school for DS to get sick. It started with a cold a few days ago, then yesterday he had a stomach ache and threw up several times but was fine a couple hours later and this morning he's sleeping much later than normal. I don't know if the symptoms are connected or not, but it's pretty strange...

I have a little nasal congestion today and am exhausted. My work semester (and kids) started last week so it’s been 2 weeks of exposure to a lot of stuff. Covid is here and there is strep in the pre-k and where I teach too. I hope your ds feels better soon.

Similar here - day 4 of kindergarten and ds fell asleep way too early this evening and had just a bit earlier started having a runny nose, and so i swabbed him when he was asleep sure enough... covid. Immediate dark line on the test . No fever though - sneaky. (And then he woke up around midmight partly due to having fallen asleep before dinner, and he's still awake now ) As of this evening just after his test dd and I were negative but I doubt that will last. Of course, right before there might finally gave been a booster available. Dd still hasn't had covid (knock on wood), this is ds's first time, and I had it once back between Xmas and new year. Both kids were having a good start to the school year (dd has had 7 days; ds 4); but now at least ds will be missing all or most of his 2nd week which stinks especially as there's not one single kid in his class who was in his preK class so he has a lot of making friends/learning names to do in addition to learning classroom routines and procedures. oh and I don't have contact info for any if his classmates parents yet so I can't even try to give a heads up to the parents of the kids who sit closest to him or who he says he played with today or anything. ;(
