It's a new season. I am really unmotivated for the holidays this year. So that means Christmas cards aren't going out. Sorry to those who I usually send them to. I am still thinking of you.

I'm finally doing Christmas cards for the first time since 2018. Pretty much only because I work at a print shop and my bosses insisted on making one for me. We did them today, but I'm sure it will be a few days (or a week+) before I get them mailed out. If anyone wants one, send me your address.

I should've had time to do Christmas cards as my kids have been away but no, not happening (like every year). I got basically nothing done while they were away; this was gonna be crunch week when I could finally summon motivation due to last minute-ness (need to clear up the living room and kitchen enough to be able to set up the tree, have play space, and have space for my parents, bro, and SIL to sit at the table; currently my house could be featured on hoarders.) but then I didn't feel well over the weekend into Monday morning and then Monday we got that crazy storm; luckily I'm not in the part of the state where the horrible flooding was/is but the power has been out since Monday - almost half my town was still out midday today (about 72 hours - really unusual for big areas to be out that long); some of those neighborhoods did get it back this afternoon but I'm in a big section that didn't. hopefully tomorrow... but dealing with that is easier with the kids away at least. And it should be back on for Christmas unlike last year when it went out the 23rd and didn't come back til nighttime on the 25th. So ... some silver linings? Kids get back Saturday night (they've been in India - their cousin got married last weekend).

Hope everyone's holiday has been good.
I just want to vent a little about my grandmother again. She got DD1 obviously thrifted leggings, which wouldn't be a problem except these are almost worn through. We have maybe one or two wears before there are holes in the crotch. DD2's are probably also thrifted, but they are better quality. The other kids got new stuff that was fancier than what my kids got.
I'm so tired of her doing this to my kids.

Since it's officially January 2nd I can post this. After 7 long years, we finally had a new year's where neither of the kids threw up. New years eve and new years day have come and gone, and no one vomited.
I'm sure it will happen in the next day or 2 though.

I mean, it still sucks, but hopefully by the time they notice they'll be more able to understand it is just her being whackadoodle. Are your siblings seeing it, and helping camouflage on purpose, or it's just worked out that their gifts are presented at the same time? Do they recognize what she is doing? Anyway I'm sorry she is being mean to you (via your kids).

Ds (my kindergartener) has covid again. (Having also gotten it at the very beginning of the school year) 😭😭
Luckily, and knock on wood, it's pretty mild, at least so far. Hoping it stays that way. But the kids were out of school for all of December (except Dec 1st) because they went to India for their cousin's wedding, and he was so happy to be back, and now he's got to be out of school again, and it'll be shocking if dd doesn't end up getting it too (though she didn't get it last time he had it, or when my parents and I did a year ago, so maybe), and then she'll have to miss days too. And of course i dont want to get it again either. Ugh. Also given that he just had it in Sept, and then got the updated vaccine just about 6 weeks ago, it's worrying that he has it again already - how often will it turn out to be each year? Though maybe the vaccine is to thank for it not being worse at least?
I want to blame my ex - he got very sick a few days after they got back from the trip, and wasn't really better yet this past weekend but the kids still had to go to him Sat overnight - he wasn't willing to skip the time and also they needed to get back most of their stuff from the trip, including items needed for school. But he's now tested negative twice and insists what he has is just a "regular cold" (though sure sounded more like influenza from how sick he seemed). So I guess ds must have caught it somewhere he went with me. 😓 Which is better for our community than if he were bringing in an airport-caught strain that might be different from what's already circulating here, but still highly aggravating compared to being able to blame my ex.

She did similar stuff to us as kids.

Dd2 just tattled on dd1 for something not important. Dd1 replied with "snitches get stitches".

Maybe I need new tires.

I really wish that medical scanner thing that I think I remember them having in Star Trek: the Next Generation and maybe also in Odd Squad were real! Not knowing the cause of kids' illness (or mine, for that matter) is quite aggravating. Dd has a cough and sore throat and just an almost-fever, and I figured it was covid from ds but she keeps testing negative, and maybe he has something else too as his fever is now is as high or higher than on previous days (and this was day 5 with onset/test day having been 0) but other than a bit of a cough, he seems totally fine (despite the fever). Weird.
Update - I tested ds again after he went to sleep last night and he was negative; tested with another brand; also negative. It was his day 5. So now I'm wondering if his 1st positive was maybe false (and regretting not having retested to confirm) and he's had something else all along. Or if he did have it, but cleared the virus really quickly but has a secondary infection or just a different illness . Augh. And he was coughing worse in the night and this morning than he has been.

Well I went on a trip last week. First time skiing in 15 years. It was going great until… COVID. I’m the only one positive though I think I got it from DS 3 (just didn’t test him early. Also I skipped my booster because it was inconvenient, yet I made sure to get one for DS3 at his annual dr appt). It’s kicked my butt. I knew what it was because of all the thick mucus, temp changes (at one point my temp was too low to register and I thought it was a broken thermometer…followed by massive sweating), headaches, coughing and shortness of breath. And also I started school again myself and I start my teaching (my job) semester this week. I’m at the tail end of it now, but geez I’m exhausted. Also hi! I haven’t been catching up like I should. I want to, I’m just tired.

Ugh, so much sickness.
I’ve been in bed for 2 days with a stomach virus from hell. So bad. No one else in the house has it so far, what are the chances of keeping it that way? We shall see, I guess.
Watching the College Football Championship, going to try some broth in a bit. 🤞🏻
I miss you ladies. Life is good for the most part but chaotic. So much going on all the time.

mrscheese are you feeling better? Sorry you had the nasty stomach bug. I hope the rest of your household still doesn't get it! activebaby, I hope you are too. You said you were at the tail end of ut, but it also sounds like you have a brutal schedule; I hope you're able to fit in some rest to finish getting better!

Ds has strep - we went to walk in Monday. His rapid was negative but they sent it out for pcr too (I thought the 2nd test was a culture but this place does pcr) and that came back positive. They weren't even going to swab him be ause he hasn't had a sore throat. I think dd does too, and her doctor was willing to also call in antibiotics for her today even though her tests from monday were negative, since her symptoms were getting worse and her brother has it. I really hope that's really what it is despite not really being typical strep symptoms so they'll both get better soon! Today was the 8th full day of ds being sick. He hadn't been super miserable, but it's so much school to miss especially after being away almost all of December. Dd is pretty miserable; hoping by tomorrow afternoon she'll start to feel better. At walk in they also swabbed ds (but not dd - I hope I don't come to regret not insisting she get it too) for flu/covid/rsv pcr test; that came back negative, so most likely his covid test last week was a false positive. I guess one take away from this is to always double check positive covid tests from now on.
