It's everywhere. I am just counting the days until it hits our house. I'm sorry you've got a little at home again. Hopefully the 10 days past quickly (Ha!). It’s one thing to deal with one quarantine, but it’s just all of it for two years. Someone is always home, or quarantined, or being tested, etc.. I’m so done I feel you. My kids are currently on remote. Supposedly they'll be back in-person tomorrow, but I'm waiting for the school to inform us that they have to stay home longer. Case counts are still rising on our dashboard. Every day they are in person, they bring home their school issued chromebooks "in case" they have to be remote. The whole thing is so freaking stress inducing.

And we just got notified that we're remote for the rest of the week. So much togetherness. Kinda sorry kinda jealous. For my family, I would actually welcome a week or two of remote because there are just ridiculous numbers of cases right now and my school district (where ds' daycare family kiddos also attend) isn't doing well with precautions. It's looming so close and I'd rather be stuck home together healthy than sick! But then again there's so many students for whom remote is just awful and it especially would suck for the families who just recently had covid and were out of school and work big chunks of time. Too bad it'd be impractical to offer options - stay safe at home for those who want to; in-person catch-up academy for those who gave recently been out. Our hospitals are still so dangerously over-full; it's really maddening not to have more effort to slow the spread. Instead in most school districts now kids (and staff) can now come to school even if someone in the house has covid and even if unvaxxed. Dd's district at least rolled back that change; they said with omicron 80% of household members are catching it so if positive in the house then out for 5 days. No quarantine required for other close contact situations, though - just if in household.

It's just difficult to work from home (as cattitude was saying) when you have littles around, and especially if you have to help them with school stuff. I've got heightened anxiety that's making it hard to sleep, and I have to get my work assignments done in the middle of the night to meet my deadlines.

I am pretty much always at my breaking point since the school year started. It’s not a fun place to live for an extended period of time. And my H is working from home too, which helps but he’s in a new job so I try to take on all the pressure. It’s also too much togetherness with my H. He’s an extrovert and a talker and a touched and I am NOT. Like I can be those things, but not generally at home all the time with people I see all day, ya know? I’m like- you gotta go back downstairs and stop talking to me. I can’t take anymore.

When we go remote/virtual the teachers still have to teach from their classrooms and their kids aren’t allowed to come with them. Is that how it is for your district?

I scheduled a covid/flu test for myself tomorrow. My throat is a little sore, I have a super mild headache and I'm feeling achy. Throat could be because if the big temperature swings, headache because I have new glasses amd because I get them all the time. Bodyaches could be from ovulation pains because I'm 2 weeks away from my next period. But since I was at my parents for a bit yesterday and I'm a responsible person I'm getting tested.

No quarantine required for other close contact situations, though - just if in household. When we go remote/virtual the teachers still have to teach from their classrooms and their kids aren’t allowed to come with them. Is that how it is for your district? It depends. Basically yes but with a lot of ifs. This year so far we barely have gone remote - they're really trying to just have school open no matter what - middle and high school did remote a couple days the week of Veteran's Day, those days, yes we were supposed to teach from school, like the remote days last year, except the (many) teachers who were sick or in quarantine or home with a sick kid were supposed to at least post lessons from home. Two of the elementary schools have each had to close for a day due to lack of staff; they were just closed not remote. Last year on remote days (part of the year hybrid for grades 7-12; all Wednesdays and then a couple extra patches here and there) we had to teach from the building (and not bring our kids) unless sick or in quarantine or kids sick or in quarantine/daycare closed. And of course just like all other working from home, teaching, even asynchronously, with kids home too, is untenable. More doable than some other jobs, but still doesn't really work. So going remote really wouldn't help, it would just be a different form of madness. And around here it doesn't actually reduce spread overall because most people gather at least as much. It just lets some families who do observe precautions not be forced to have our kids in the lunchroom, etc with others who don't. Which isn't much of a benefit at all compared to the huge problems it brings so that's why here they are only going remote when staffing the building is impossible. It still feels like madness, though.

cattitude that sounds absolutely impossible. I'm sorry. I hope that when the baby's daycare reopens you can get a good long stretch of daycare and school both being open so at least it's back to super stressful instead of crazy wtf-is-the-universe-doing-to-me stressful which is what it sounds like right now. Cases must have peaked where you are? I hope? And athena I hope it's just these two more days for you; getting writing work done in that situation and then basically not sleeping also sounds impossible.

springbeduk Ds did his first day of the TAG program here and couldn’t stop talking about how fast the day went and how much fun he had. They are looking at architecture and animal habitats. I was so excited that he was excited about school. Tagging you because I think that is what you teach too. I hope Ds2 gets the opportunity to do this at some point too. I’d love for him to be excited about school too.

I got another notice that the middle child’s room might be closed for 10 days. I don’t know what’s peaking or when. I read the other day we have 200% more cases now than a year ago. The schools are staying open and doing test to stay, and vax’d kids can go to school even with a positive test if they don’t have symptoms and wear a mask. Which I’m actually glad the schools are staying open and masking. Prayers to all of you losing your minds.

Hopefully though because it’s not as severe, we have lots of healthy people get it and get over it and maybe finally get close to herd immunity.

I finally did my brain mri today. I’ve been putting it off a couple years. I didn’t want to spend the money, but my mom had her sah (subarachnoid hemorrhage) when she was just older than me. And I’ve been having headaches for the past year + on and off, so I finally just did it. I am hoping nothing will be found and if it isn’t then hopefully I have the same chance of a sah as everyone else.

Apparently, according to the experts, we are past the peak of omicron, which is good news but our positivity rate is still high and every day I hear about another acquaintance being positive so we are not out of the woods yet. activebaby good luck with your MRI results.

Hopefully though because it’s not as severe, we have lots of healthy people get it and get over it and maybe finally get close to herd immunity. It’s insane. We have had a large number of cases in lower grades at our school. After putting all the pieces together it appears that the culprit was a happy hour several moms went to a few weeks back. One of them passed the virus to the others and then they to all their kids and then to carpool and daycare and on and on. No happy hours right now, people. I know it’s been two years but come on. Not at the height of Omi. Please and thank you. 😑

They tested him and he came up positive. Dumbass. And dh's work has a vaccine or weekly test policy, so at least they are trying.

I relate to this as well. I was talking on the phone with a friend last night and she mentioned that she had to have her sewer line snaked on Monday. Then I said "Ohh yeah, we had that happen last year right before covid started". She had to correct me, that it happened 2 years ago. I keep thinking that all the projects I've done around the house since it started have all been done in the last year.

Dd2 has a 10 degree temperature limit I found out today. She lost her mind standing at the bus stop with ds2. She won’t leave the couch now and is wrapped in blankets demanding milk. I have a 70 degree temp limit but no one cares and makes me live in the frozen tundra. 😭

It's definitely a collective societal trauma. Good news though, is that there are rumors that the vax will be submitted for approval for the younger set next month, with approval likely in early March.
