Are any of your kids still masking in school? Is your family masking at all anywhere? I live in a weird bubble (city) of super cautious or not at all. There doesn’t seem to be any middle ground. I’m just curious what it’s like for you. I am somewhere in the middle but tending towards more cautious because we see my parents daily. My mom is 77 and my dad has respiratory issues. 🤷🏼♀️ We are not masking and it's not required anymore. There are still many people wearing masks out and about here. I would say do whatever you're comfortable with.

I worry about my parents too. My mom also has respiratory issues. But I mask more than her. I mostly do it for my own peace of mind. I make my kids mask at stores, but they don't really go to them very often.

I’m just curious what it’s like for you. I am somewhere in the middle but tending towards more cautious because we see my parents daily. My mom is 77 and my dad has respiratory issues. 🤷🏼♀️ Through the summer, the kids and I have been wearing masks any public indoor places we go (mostly library, but I did take them into stores a few times and a couple other things). We aren't masking outdoors even though the info that came out about B.A.5 even being transmissible outdoors made me feel that it's sketchy/not science based to not mask outdoors, but that would have been such a hard change in the summer and ds is finally vaccinated, so the benefits of being outdoors without masks seem to outweigh the risk. We just havent gone to anything with huge crowds (playground, yes; county fairs, no). Similarly, (adding in some risk) we have had a few visits with friends (one family at a time, but a few different families) in their homes and dd had a friend over without masks or testing first, which was new this summer, but again, risk/benefit analysis. Time with friends is important enough to be worth some risk now. Very very few people here are wearing masks now. One store I went in yesterday (without kids) I totally felt like a freak, though after a while it did turn out a couple other people in the store also had masks on. Case rates here are lower than most of the country but still aren't low - they're same or higher than they were sept/oct last year and there's much less reporting now so the real rate is higher. I'm still trying to decide about school. We go back the 29th. I probably will still mask because I really don't mind wearing it and I don't feel like the benefit of not wearing a mask at school - even if I'm the only one and people think I'm a freak - is worth the exposure risk, at least until I can get the new booster that's supposed to be coming. Forvthe kids, its harder. The little group of kids in dd's class last year who kept masking til the end (seemed to be more than in any other class - they kinda supported each other/had a critical mass going) are all spread out into different classes for 3rd grade and I'm not sure about making her be the only one. May let her choose. And then ds is starting preK; he's great about wearing a mask at library, etc, but all day is different, especially if he is the only one, and teachers wont be supposed to help/remind, and by the time they have snack and lunch, maybe that makes it pointless for the rest of the day? And then he'll go to before and after care with breakfast and snack, so also probably pointless to mask there since already exposed during eating times. He would definitely be the only one masking there. So I'm leaning towards not making kids mask at school, though sending them with masks they can use if they want. We have found KN95 for dd and KF94 for ds that fit great. But then there's the extra wrinkle that my ex-MIL (from India) - I think she is 82? - is arriving next week and will be staying with ex /spending time with kids for a couple months. So higher- risk person to worry about. But ex is less covid cautious than me; sounds like he doesn't wear masks indoors the few places he goes and only sometimes lets kids put on their masks if they go to a library or store (maybe yes if it's lowes or Walmart but no if it's the co-op?). I think my current goal is that when we all eventually get covid, it at least not be me who brought it into the house/family. Like, best case scenario is ex-MIL brings it with her from airport/travels, (or if ex takes her to a restaurant, sonething like that) so then we get it out of the way but it can't possibly be construed to be my fault. 😰😰 But if course it'll probably not go like that and will end up being from me/my fault somehow.

scotty, how are you all doing? Everyone has pretty much recovered except for me. I went to the ER because baby wasn't moving much and my heart was racing. My lungs are cloudy but no pneumonia or clots. I was told I don't qualify for the antibody treatment. I'm a pretty healthy and active person and I'm surprised how much this is kicking my butt.

The masking stuff is so interesting and regional. There are a lot of people here who mask 100% of the time they’re outside their home. And there are a lot of people that don’t bring a mask or ever wear one anywhere unless it’s absolutely required.
I am in a weird gray area as far as what to do. My pediatricians kids go to my kids school. I asked her and she said her kids won’t mask at school unless community transmission levels are high but she recommends kids mask if there is a compromised person in the household (hello, me!). But I think I am landing on letting the kids decide. I know the school will support whatever choice they make. We’re all up to date on vaccines and I will get a booster as soon as it’s available this fall.
I’ve been having a hard time with my asthma recently and I think that’s why I’m thinking about masks so much. I myself will continue to wear one indoors. I don’t care if I’m the freak. 🤷🏼♀️

I'm up in the air about masks for school this year. I want them to be able to choose for themselves, but I also don't want to risk anything. I am making a couple of new Star Wars ones for both girls to hopefully encourage them to wear them. I doubt anyone else in their school will be wearing them. Almost no one around here wears them, I did have one lady (who was wearing a mask) last month when we were buying school supplies comment on how cute the ones the kids were wearing are, say it was nice to see other people wearing one. Since we help give rides to our neighbor who is undergoing cancer treatments right now, I feel that we should do everything we can to help make sure we don't pass anything onto him or his wife.

I think athena mentioned the school supply list coming out last minute? I felt pretty good about being done with the school supply list. Then we got teacher info yesterday and Ds’ teacher had a different list than the school gave to us. So I target shopped online because I do not want to be in the store the weekend before school starts. That sounds like misery. scotty check in when you can.

I have strep my ears hurt so much has anyone had this? Did the doctor check you for an ear infection too? I've had them together before. It sucks. I do believe that just regular ear pain is sometimes a symptom, since the system is all connected. Basically, since your throat is swollen, the fluid in your ear can't drain correctly, causing pressure.

My notifications stopped working a while back so I didn't see the tags. Thanks for checking in.
I'm feeling much better. I still have some congestion and since it won't be 10 days until tomorrow my 36 week appt got cancelled today. I get that they don't want covid in the clinic but the risks associated with covid in 3rd trimester seem like they should be monitored. My care this pregnancy has been minimal. I'm ready for baby to be here safe in my arms.

On a brighter note, I finally found a car that will fit all of our carseats and isn't ridiculously priced. Working on finalizing the purchase of a traverse today. Inventory around here is really low. Relieved we found something before baby comes.

Do they want you to have negative tests (rapid ones - you'll probably be positive on a PCR for quite a while) before you can come in for a rescheduled 36(+) week appointment, or are they just going with 10 days (less safe, but probably likely)? Either way I hope they can check you soon! Sorry (and angry for you) that you are stuck with such crappy medical care there!

DD1 says her throat hurts. I think she just doesn't want to take her spelling test.
We're letting her stay home because we don't want to set a bad precedent. But I'm a little bummed as it puts a damper on my birthday plans.
(Covid test was negative and she has zero other symptoms. I'm not a monster)

We just went through a round of snot (Not covid), nothing bad just annoying. I knew it would happen going to a new camp. Then school starts for us Monday and I’m sure there will be a new round of snot. Ds (and maybe 2) may end up masking for their own comfort. I’m trying to convince ds2 to take his mask off (I know, I know) because with his speech it’s so much harder to understand with a mask. (His th and r’s are still hard to understand) That would be hard with a spelling test coming up.

But she's not keeping hers on (I know, the teacher has sent pics) even though she's taking one to school. Of course, I didn't tell them they have to, but I don't know how I'll ever be comfortable without one around people again.

athena do they do pretests for the spelling words? And if so, I wonder if she might go for an alternate goal, to get over the stress/avoidance of it - like, forget about the overall score. Get 1 (or 2, whatever goal you find appropriate) word correct that she didn't get on the pre-test. Chart/celebrate it at home - and maybe check for still remembering those words over the next few weeks? Maybe?
