DH leaves for 6 days early tomorrow morning. He got a big promotion at work and now has to travel a few times a year. The kids are a mess, especially J. He is mg anxious kid and cried for a long time tonight. It’s the last week of school, and I have a full week of working in the office. Thank the Lord for my parents help and being rock stars. I am still struggling with my asthma after Covid. Docs have upped my meds and I’m doing better overall but have bad days here and there where it’s so out of control. It’s wait and see as to if this is the new normal or will get better. 🤞🏻 it gets much better. Awww, poor J! How is he doing today? Have either your H or you been away before? It's good he got a promotion, but too bad it adds the complication/family disruption of travel for work. Good your parents are helping, though! Sorry your asthma is acting up so much. your doc didn't give you paxlovid, right? Aggravating. I hope it improves soon and doesn't turn out to be your new normal! Have they said if there's anything else they woukd try besides your current meds, or any other specialist you might get referred to, if it stays like this?

How are any of you in areas that have had smoke doing?
The images and descriptions that have been in the news are pretty awful!
I've been lucky that it pretty much went around Maine (so far, knock on wood) as we had a cold/rainy weather system parked on top of us all week that somehow made the airflow go around and took the smoke ro much farther away places instead.

The smoke isn’t bad here like it is for some of you. However I see it especially at sunset. The kids haven’t been allowed outside for long this week at school. I think it is getting better though.

Dh traveled when J was a baby but stopped at around age 3 so he doesn’t remember it. He’s doing good today. We’ll see if that lasts at bedtime. I’m not upset about paxlovid at all. I honestly didn’t want it as everyone I know who’s gotten it has had awful side effects and rebound. It’s very likely it wouldn’t have done much to change the outcome for me. My asthma gets bad when I have a moderate cold and when allergies are bad, etc. so this isn’t new or unexpected. I’m finding as I get older, it just takes longer to fully recover. I am going to a new pulmonologist next month. I am really interested to see if she changes the approach eg meds.

If anyone would like to buy our house it goes up for sale Friday. We have been having a horrible time with DD. Every time she goes to school someone else tortures her, I know most teachers love teaching but hers clearly does not. mrscheese I’m glad you are a little better!

That's awful that your dd is having such a rough time at school this year. i hope where you live next will be a lot better! Is she all set to go to the Jewish day school you were looking at before, or did you find another option? Is she going to any camps this summer, or anything like that? She just finished 4th grade, right?

Are you feeling any better they (another week along)? Just to add to/balance out the paxlovid anecdote count, in case you are recommended to take it next time, or for others who are - the only person I know of among those who took it who had realky bad side effects was my friend's very elderly (late 80s?) mom who got really bad diarrhea/risk of dehydration so had to stop. But several other people I know had no side effects at all or just moderate bad taste in their mouth, and most didn't get rebound. There's not enough data put on it yet but it may be that people who start it really early - like immediately after first testing positive, maybe not even having symptoms yet (like all the famous people we heard about - Fauci, Biden, etc) are more likely to get rebound. Anyway - closer to home - I took it and so did my dad and stepmother; none of us got rebound (and I did keep testing to watch for it); my dad and I had the annoying metallic taste but it didn't even last the full time between doses; for my stepmother the taste bothered her more and she had a little GI upset. None of us got as dramatic symptom improvement as some other people had reported, but my worst symptoms (bad, strep-like, sore throat and not being able to sleep) did get better after about a day - I think for my dad too. Nasal congestion hung on. And my 78 year old dad who doesn't have 2 of his 5 lung lobes anymore didn't develop any breathing trouble, so that was very good! Anyway, if it (paxlovid) is recommended for you at some point don't be too scared off by side effect / rebound reports!

Oh also mrscheese is your H back? I hope the time he was away wasn't too awful especially kids' bedtime! I’m feeling much better! Thank you for asking 😊. I turned the corner pretty profoundly on Thursday and it’s been staying improved. I talked to my doc yesterday and will stay on the higher dose steroid inhaler for 2 more weeks then try to taper back to a much lower dose or maybe none. We just have to see how it goes. Dh is back. He was gone for a week. It was rough as it was the last week of school. My mom recently had a stress test due to some breathing issues and they found an issue with her heart. Waiting for the cardiologist appt in July to confirm what’s wrong and get a treatment plan. She is mg childcare and isn’t able to watch the kids the same way for now. It’s a lot of stress but I really just want my mom to be ok. Please think good thoughts for her ❤️
