We aren't doing too well at keeping up with monthly random threads- maybe going by season will work? Though I guess it's been spring for a while for many of you, while here the daffodils haven't even bloomed yet (though it was suddenly super-springlike weather today - almost 70!)
Anyway, our M14 kids are turning 9!!?! Holy moly, where have all those years gone?
Grateful to still have the people in this group for company on this ride!

We're in the weird stretch where we are in spring some days or early summer other days. Sometimes both in the same day. Plus, we've got all the tornado watches, warnings, and actual tornadoes happening every other week it seems. At least the heavy pollen season has passed.
I can't believe the babies are going to be 9! (A turned 7 this week and I can't believe that came so fast either!) I remember reading something years ago that when a kid turns 9, you've already taken care of them for half as long as you're "suppposed" to. Crazy to realize we're already at that stage.

It’s definitely spring here, which means super perfect sunny days mixed in with rain and gray skies 😂. Roulette basically.
Today marks 10 years to the day that I quit smoking. I was finally able to kick the habit because I wanted to have a baby. And now that baby is almost 9! My mind can’t quite make sense of all that’s happened in the last 10 years. Happy, too, that most of those were spent with you all.
For J’s bday, we’re taking him and a friend to a Mariners game. We also got him a pair of Nike Griffeys which he will love. I miss my little boy and his sweet round cheeks, but I simply adore the young man he is growing up to be. He is my sports buddy, my artist, the sweetest old soul. I am looking forward to many baseball games with him this summer.

I guess spring is here? It's been 85-90 the past few days but now it's back in the 60s. Typical New England.
DS said he didn't want a party so we are taking him to an indoor waterpark. We are trying to keep it a surprise but we'll see.. We are also getting him a big lego set that he's wanted for awhile. I can't believe he's almost 9!

Hello! It’s sports season here. Soccer finishes this month and baseball next. We had our opening day yesterday. For ds1 & 2 it went well. Lots of fun. For ds3, I think we have officially retired from tball - it was an awful experience and we ended up leaving because he was screaming. For ds’ bday we are going to ATL for the weekend but he doesn’t know that (we vrbo’d a house about a mile from our old house with a pool and invited all their friends that are also our friends) . Then I think we will have a cousin day at a kid park/arcades/small rides thing close. Ds2’s bday is in July (turning 7). He wants a sleepover but we aren’t close enough to the new parents here yet.

We have dance recital pictures today. Both girls costumes are very pink this year. Of course, DD2 thought it would be funny to put seeds in her hair right before I had to put it up in a bun. She will not be doing that again.

We had highs in the 80s this past week, and the last night it dropped down to the 30s and started snowing, and only stopped about 2 hours ago. My backyard was completely white when I woke up this morning, but most of the snow has melted since then. MN weather is crazy. I have a ton of tulips that have come up, and most of the peonies have started popping through the dirt so I hope they are ok.
Still no job yet. I've applied to a crap ton of places, so I'm hoping something will stick. DH and I ended up buying a new (to us) van 2 weeks ago. Its a 2020 Toyota Sienna, and I love it. We were going to wait till I found a job, but it was a good deal, and our old van was at 199k miles on it. And with everything that has broken the last year, we didn't want to keep putting money into it. I do have to take it back to the dealer we got it from tomorrow because one of the 3rd row seats is broken and needs to be fixed. We got it at a dealership in my home town, so my mom is going to pick me up. She is going out to lunch with a bunch of her friends tomorrow, and invited me along. These are people that she used to go out to dinner with when I was growing up, so it feels weird to now be grown up enough to go out to eat with my moms grown up friends.

Sorry about the trouble in the job hunt. We had 80s last week too. And we're supposed to get snow tonight. I am not a fan of the roller coaster weather, though I should definitely be used to it.

We took advantage of the nice weather stretch this past week/weekend. Started preparing the garden beds, weeding flower bed, got fruit trees planted and got the drain tile installed to hopefully help with drainage and rain water washing out our yard and flowerbed. Oh, and we also picked up 4 chicks to add to our current flock that is 3 years old. The kids are having fun with the fluffy babies in the basement for now.

She will not be doing that again. I hope the pictures came out good! We have ours in 3 weeks. Do your girls do competitions too? Our dance teacher wants both of my girls to try out for the competition team. They want to do it, but I just don't know if I'm ready for that kind of time and money commitment yet. Plus, I selfishly want G to stick with her golf class and I don't know that she would have the time for it anymore.

There is a competitive tumbling team that DD2 wants to join, but the dance is all for fun. We do not currently do any competitive sports. We've talked about doing the tumbling team in the future, but DD2 is just 6 and it seems like a huge commitment. Activities are good, but they become such a time suck.

No dance or gymnastics for us right now. But baseball, soccer and now adding back in swim has me exhausted. Soccer ends the first week of May and baseball at the end of May. Ds3 quit tball (can’t remember if I shared this with the group). His coach was so nice about it - but my kid was a distraction and not listening (and refusing to play- running out of field to parking lot), so I don’t think it was a good decision to make him keep coming. My almost 9 and almost 7 year old are getting so much easier overall to manage (ds has always been easy). It makes it a very big contrast to the needs of a 4 year old.

🫣…. C got invited to be part of the performance team. They aren’t actually going to be doing competitions. They will just dance at parades, nursing homes in town, sports half time shows, things like that. It will meet 1 Saturday a month, more when it is closer to a performance. Dancing is the only thing she does. I have asked her multiple times if she wants to do soccer, soft ball, etc. and the answer is always no, “dancing is my thing.” 🤷🏻♀️
T does soccer in the fall and Tball in the spring through the town rec. We tried a winter season of both but the place was awful and it wasn’t worth the money. I would love to get him in soccer or Tball year around since he loves it, I just haven’t found a good place. But new to him, in the fall he will be taking an Acro / Hip hop class. He is super excited about it!

meggypoo1 I would be good with that schedule! This competition team would require 4 days a week of practice. Then traveling around the state to competitions for a 3 minute dance 😩 Let me know how the acro/hip hop class is. We may add another dance class in the fall and I was thinking of that one. They currently do jazz/tap.

She also takes 5 other dance classes and now this one.. it seems like a lot but thankfully the majority is in on the same day so she is just dropped off and then I pick her up a few hours later. I think it would be much more of a PITA if it was every day. Hip hop is a class C takes now and likes it! T was excited that his Acro class would be Hip hop as well. I’ll still let you know how he likes it though!

I presented at a conference/workshop (only around 50 in attendance) at my new workplace. I was supposed to be a co-presenter (support someone else who has a PhD), but I think they are going through something because they bailed on me(did none of the work, research, prep), so I was a solo presenter. And…..it went so well!!! I’m proud of myself and so I wanted to share that with people who would be proud of me. I’m so proud of myself today for proving myself to my new colleagues.

DS has COVID. I'm coughing so I guess I'm next. it was a nice 3 years... That stinks. I hope you'll all have it relatively mildly and recover quickly and fully! If you don't already have a gazillion tests (to test for when you aren't contagious anymore, or for next time, or for others reading this) you might want to see if you can get another set of 4 free ones from federal government - if you haven't gotten any from them since early December you should be able to. special.usps.com/testkitsAlso with the federal emergency ending in 10 days - insurance still has to reimburse (or pay up front for - mine only reimburses but some let you just get them paid for like a prescription) for 8 kits per month now but they might stop that May 11th so order them quick!

Thanks everyone. DS is much better and DH is negative so far. I'm a mess - fever, headache, body aches, cough, etc. and I can't sleep, which is the worst. springbeduk I wish I had known that about the COVID test. Each 2 pack was $25 at CVS. I did fthem on Amazon for a bit cheaper at least.

I did fthem on Amazon for a bit cheaper at least. Ugh lrmrtn sorry you're feeling so sick! You might be able to get paxlovid (my doctor called it right in when I had covid just after Christmas even though I didn't technically meet the criteria unless just being a hot mess is a risk factor, and since then more experts have recommended using paxlovid more widely) and then hopefully start feeling better faster. Ask for it soon though if you want to; has to be wothin 5 days of onset. ask again if they said no at first (if you want). Not being able to sleep sucks - I had that too. Your insurance company should reimburse for the tests you bought at CVS if you have a receipt (paper or online if you ordered them or have loyalty account that saves it), and/or any you got from Amazon. Up to 8 per month per covered family member (until May 11th - hopefully sometime before then you'll feel enough better to deal with whatever their online claim process is)

We’re joining the Covid bench, too, @lrmrtin 😭
J and Dh tested positive today, and I’m certain I’m on my way to a positive as well. The sore throat came on out of nowhere today, but the test was negative. Cot said her head hurt earlier so she’s on her way, too, I guess.
I’m an anxious mess. My asthma hasn’t been great lately due to allergies. I’m freaked out about the breathing issues that might arise with Covid. But I’m calming myself down and reminding myself that I just need to deal with reality, not what might happen.

mrscheese did you and/or your h get a chance to talk with doctor about taking paxlovid? If they say no due to age (not being old enough) that is bs/outdated; get another opinion (maybe via telehealth), but it does have interactions with some other medications and at least for a while some doctors were wanting to have had fairly up to date blood tests (kidney function- I think covered under a standard metabolic panel) to check before prescribing, so it's possible that there'd be a real medical reason one or both of you can't take it. But if you can, it's likely to reduce severity (which might lower anxiety which can also help on top of the direct action of the medication) and duration. You might get a nasty taste in your mouth while taking it but it goes right away after. Good luck; I hope you all feel better soon!

lrmrtn hope you are feeling better!! Just be prepared for the potential of lingering fatigue. When we had it DH was back to himself in about a week but it took me 2-3 weeks for the fatigue to go away. mrscheese I hope it stays mild for you. I agree with your asthma see if you can get paxlovid. I wasn’t able to but I have no underlying health issues. My cousin got it when she had Covid and she felt better super quick.
